If Romney wins, he should go even further and defund NPR

If the Muppets can survive without the government, I'm sure Bert & Ernie's gay asses can too.

I like PBS and NPR. I won't lose any sleep if they are cut, but I have no problem with the stations. I will say that I don't like how the Republicans focus on things such as this when the cost of PBS and NPR are extremely small. Making minuscule aspects of the federal budget major talking points just seems counter productive.

The problem is there are tens of thousands of extremely small goverment funded programs.

I think when he says cutting PBS its actually the funding for PBS and NPR and possibly something else. Google it.

I don't care if they cut PBS and NPR. I just find it odd that Republicans are making this an issue when Romney wants to spend over 2 trillion more than Obama on defense.

Why would Republicans make an issue of 2 trillion in extra defense spending? Did you mean Democrats because that makes more sense?

No. I'm mocking the notion that the GOP cares about the economy and spending. They'll start a stink over NPR but are cool with spending trillions more elsewhere. A shitty sarcasm fail on my part.

I read Peggy Noonans article a minute ago and it made sense. By vilifying PBS/ Big Bird then you give the Democrats an opening to have Big Birds show up at every rally with signs saying "Don't Kill Me". I know it's ridiculous but it's just another distraction.

Probably more of my fault I agree, 2 trillion on top of current military spending is borderline retarded

Cut 100 small, unnecessary things and you have done something significant. The problem is that they will just try to spend more on other things to offset the cuts, if the cuts are even made.

Do your research...nothing "retarded" about it

The tax payors give PBS/NPR between $400 and $500 million per year. NPR, being public funded, then spews partisan political crap. This funding should be eliminated...maybe PBS/NPR would survive in the competitive market and maybe not. Sesame Street would get picked-up by another network. NPR is terribly partisan and frankly, corrupt! Defunding is actually pretty popular!

I don't find NPR to be very partisan. Their newscasts are actually some of the most non-partisan broadcasts I've heard. They just tell the story without opinions.

These kids shows on PBS are cash cows some one will pick them up quickly. It is something he can say he is cutting without pissing off a huge group of voters. I don't understand why no one gets this. And do we actually need NPR though? No cut it. And I don't want to get another stupid discussion about this blue, but the military spending is based on expected growth of the GDP. Plus that spending will actually increase jobs.

Seriously, 2 trillion more on military spending. Please enlighten me on the reasons this type of spending is necessary?

I don't really agree with 2 trillion. We will most likely hear more about it at the foreign policy debate. I just don't think we need to cut military spending, just not sure we should spend that much.
