Oh I know it. Learned quite a bit in a college course about Oregon. Main reason there aren't many AA's is they didn't want to be a slave state, when people came over with slaves on the Oregon trail, but they couldn't stay here. They had to leave.

"Even if I wear black makeup and I don't think its harmful or racist, that doesn't mean someone won't take it very seriously," Harris said.

Yep. They wanted to exclude them.

Oregon became the only State to have a Black Exclusion provision in its Constitution. It was not repealed by the voters of Oregon until 1926.

Okay, but we're talking about wearing a black shirt.

Wearing a frickING black shirt is NOT culturally insensitive. And if you think that it is, then please move to another country.

The panel is right. Wouldn't want to offend the 5 black people in Oregon that aren't on the beaver or duck football teams.

I'm glad at least one person read the full article before freaking out like a fool. I'll post it again to emphasize why the admin canceled the blackout.

it was canceled b/c they know a few students will be morons that will take it too far.

not saying I agree with it BTW but thats the reasoning.

they should have just gone with a no painted bodies rule

everyone should wear black anyway to that game

I will

It's not the wearing black shirts that is the problem; it was when they did it last time, a couple students wore affro wigs and black body paint. This one student complained about it and it became a big thing.

There is a big difference between somebody wearing blackface and somebody who painted their face black for a game. Last week, Washington had a blackout, and nobody cared that that people used black body paint.

black paint for a game not racist.

I don't get it. This is so stupid. Culturally insensitive to wear black, the school's colors? Makes no sense. Who will be deprived?

OMG, let's all sue the world because college kids dress up and put Afro wigs on to have a good time at a damn football game.

Let the kids have fun and quit worrying about pissing people off. I bet there are some feminist nazis out there that are offended about their use of beavers as a mascot.

when i was in high school years back we'd have black outs and teams would call us racist. it truly makes no sense. our school colors were black and gold and over half our team was black including coaches.

i just don't understand it. it's pathetic to worry about crap like this.. and like morgan freeman said.. until we stop talking about race.. it's never going to go away.

Sounds like a good call to save the university some potential embarrassment.

How fricking moronic would a person have to be to relate these two things?
