In public perception for those that don't know the reality and in elections yes, and because of population concentration but not the majority of the land outside. But the vocal minority always gets the publicity. People see Portland and think Oregon is some hippie haven.

The majority outside of Portland and Eugune...which means mostly agricultural (because that's what Oregon is) - don't Californicate Oregon used to be their slogan...is ultra-conservative.

But the population size in the big counties with Portland and with the electoral college gives the state to Dems but McCain won the overwhelming majority of the Counties last election. Marion County (State Capitol in Salem) barely carried for Obama. But the majority of Oregon is a farming hick state.
