On of my vendors invited me to a dove shoot on his land weekend after next? I live in AL and the out of state 10 day lisence is $50. This guy owns the property and said that since I would be a personal guest of his, I needn't buy a lisence. I don't mind paying the money If I have to, but the savings would be nice. Is there any truth to this, or is he wrong?

I would pay the $50. Should be able to look it up in the Florida Dpt of Wildlife web site.

Pretty sure he's wrong.

Get the license.

Lots of shooting at a field is a good way to get a visit from green jeans...

I would be safe and get the license.

I know that not having a license is now a misdemeanor. Not worth finding out if he's right or not.

We saw GJ Sat. and not a shot had been fired. He said he had 50+ fields to check in a 4 mile area. Everybody in SE AL planted peanuts this year so I guess the birds have too many choices.

Florida Wildlife page

quote:

Migratory bird permit: Required, in addition to a hunting license, when taking or attempting to take ducks, geese, brants, coots, common moorhens, gallinules, rails, snipes, woodcocks, mourning doves and white-winged doves. When obtaining the permit, you will be asked a few questions about last season’s harvest numbers. Your answers help improve accuracy of harvest data used in managing migratory bird populations. Permit is valid from Sept. 1 through March 31. A migratory bird permit is not required to take crows.

I think Mississippi has a law that if you are hunting on your property and that property is your residence a license is not required. Not sure if any other states have that rule. But you're not a resident so wouldn't matter anyway.

Funny, I was in a dove club a few years ago. The leader owned a service station in town and serviced all the GJ trucks. They would come by every Monday and find out where we would be the next weekend. Needless to say, we never got checked.

He is 100% wrong and if caught the fine would be far more than $50.

Being the hunter and the hunted adds an exhilarating dimension to the primitive experience

What did something like that cost for the season and did the fields holds birds all season? I have been looking for something like that in Louisiana with no luck

There were about 20 people and it was $50 plus you had to have at least one field that could be shot twice. The $50 covered bait and a bag of oysters each week. We didn't all kill limits every shoot but every field was a good one. One dude's spot was a roost. If you've never shot a roost, you don't know what you're missing.

If I hadn't gotten into deer hunting with my dad and brother plus had kids, I would get back in it in a heartbeat.
