Trevell Dixon. West St. Mary Nebraska commit

A coworker sent me a scouting report on the Walker vs. West St. Mary matchup this Friday. Has anyone seen Trevell Dixon play and is he a guy that is being overlooked?

Week 5 of the high school season is upon us. Half way through and many teams are hitting their stride. This week’s game is between the West St. Mary Wolves (0-4, 6-2A) and the Walker Wildcats (1-3, 4-5A). This is the final tune-up for both teams before their District play begins and it should be an interesting ball game with returning starters for Walker as well as it being homecoming night.

West St. Mary (Spread Offense, 4-3 Defense)
The West St. Mary Wolves are a small team of athletes and overachievers. They sent 3 kids to Division I schools on scholarship, notably Jerald Hawkins an offensive lineman to LSU. They only suit up around 30+ kids but their conditioning is superb at the skill positions and they have tons of heart and fight for a school with limited bodies. They are coming off of a tough 1 point loss last week to Kaplan but they are a team that is always prepared to play.

They are led at Quarterback by D-1 recruit Tre’vell Dixon who has committed to Nebraska for next fall. He compiled 2500 yards (1,700 passing & 800 rushing) and 28 TDs last year. His 4.41 speed will prove troublesome for the Wildcat defense. With a 6’2 frame, he is shifty and can use his size to ward off smaller defenders and evade bigger ones. Helping to ease the role on offense is running back Glenn Marsh who also has speed and good hands coming out of the backfield.

Defense is the Achilles’ heel of this team because of lack of depth. Most of the stars play both ways so they hope to slow down Walker enough to outscore them on offense.

Walker (Dwayne Severio 2nd Year, One-Back Offense [ACE SET], 4-2-5 Defense)
The Walker Wildcats are a team looking to turn the corner this year after a disappointing previous season in Coach Dwayne Severio’s rookie campaign. Two things will benefit Walker in this game: Superior line play and Carlton Perkins. Perkins eclipsed over 1,800 rushing yards a year ago as a Junior with 24 touchdowns and is looking to build upon that this season in All-State fashion. He is the temperature gauge of this team. If he is hot, the Wildcats will roll. If he is cold, they are going to struggle in this game. They are coming off of their first victory of the season against Riverdale 22-20 despite suspensions to Perkins and wide out Sam Montgomery.

Tyler Lockhart will hope to create some magic off of play action pass in the middle of the field while the defense, especially the linebackers, in general key in on Perk with multiple defenders in the box.

On defense, the Wildcats will try to dominate the trenches with the defensive line and try to play on West St. Mary’s side of the line of scrimmage all night. All this is pending that they can get an early lead via the run game and be able to pin their whiskers back on homecoming night.

Key Players

West St. Mary Wolves
#1 QB Tre’vell Dixon
#10 RB Glenn Marsh

Walker Wildcats
#4 RB Carlton Perkins

I doubt he's being overlooked by our staff. I think Corey Raymond recruited him to Nebraska.

I'm pretty sure that Harry Coleman is back home coaching at WSM, too.

I also think Dixon, if not already, will be an ASU commit before it's over. Larry Porter. I think he's a good prospect but not quite LSU this year.

Corey Raymond got him to commit to Nebraska. Not asking him to switch tells you that LSU has better prospects committed and targeted.
