Specifically AA? I know the old adage is never buy airline stock, but somebody has got to have it.

I need to know if this a good time to buy up some AA or United.

No. It's never a good time.

There is a reason that old adage exists. I can't remember which airline it was, but a ex-CEO said "airlines are great places to work, but he'd never own the stock."

Who is buying this stock? If AA merges with United it will be a huge airline. People are still flying and in the long-term, fuel efficiency is only going to increase which will increase profit. I see Airlines only widening their margin in the future.

I am not sure United is ready to merge with another airline. Aren't they neck deep in issues trying to integrate systems and work forces already? Not to mention would it pass federal review?

Maybe it won't go through, but hopefully they will form a super-airline with somebody. The flagship carrier is worth a lot in the long run, I suppose.

Holy shite is this actually being discussed? Is united going for the record for worst airline of all time?

If you accept that you are incapable of picking individual winner sticks then it doesn't matter.

The only airline I would consider is southwest. I think they have the best business model by far, and are constantly expanding their offerings. Still not really worth it though; there are just much better companies to invest in.

The two years prior to Continental merging with United I made a small fortune timing the swings of Continental. Other than that, respect the adage.

Your response could be tongue-in-cheek, but if not, Blue Star is the airline from Wall Street that Bud's father was a union rep (maybe? been a while since I've seen that movie) for.
