Anyone have experience getting rid of this crap? We are having it sprayed tomorrow, but I heard something about beetles? Anyone know anything about this?

Don't they use carp in some lakes? Not sure you could do that in the marsh though.

I live on Lake Bisitineau which has been dealing with this problem off and on for about 5-6 years now. The LWDF tried using a weevil of some sort that was supposed to eat the salvinia but it didnt work. They have been drawing the lake down trying to freeze it but nothing seems to get rid of it. I dont think they can get rid of it entirely, it seems to me they are just trying to manage it now.

Supposedly Salvinia Weevils (the beetles) mess with the required oxygen that the plant needs to reproduce/spread (or something like that, I'm probably wrong)

We have the same problem at our camp. Haven't been back since issac but hopefully it pushed some salt water in the marsh to help it out.

I think someone in our lease put out some weevils last weekend though.

Unless you have a multi-thousand dollar salvania eradication budget. You could be in trouble on private property.

They sprayed, and did weevils on the lake I fish. The best results came 2 years ago when it got down to 17 degrees and didn't go back above freezing for 2 or 3 days. Still, you can tell it's coming back after that pussy arse winter we had last year.

Shite is tough to deal with, we have it bad S of Bayou Black. Spary is real expensive, $100+ a gallon, gas kills the crap quick, just don't know how to apply petro from a boat with a combustion engine safely. I've heard peanut oil will kill it also.

The weevils, jury still out on them for our place since saltwater knocked the stuff back pretty good with the last two storms we've had. I would get some weevils to get them established on your place anyway. They have shown the ability to slow this stuff down. Below is the Ag center guy that can point you in the right direction. We get our beetles from him when they come available.

We had it bad in a 10 acre private pond on our property in Ponchatoula. Had to drain it, then spray whatever was left to kill it totally. The weevils wouldn't work because they die when it gets cold.
