Does anybody besides me find it hard to beleive that after 4 years of watching RS #10 at practice that LM and the LSU offensive coaching has him playing the wrong position(WR). RS is a running back. Not a downfield wide receiver. Before you answer go to youtube and watch the run against Auburn '09 and the run against UNC '10. These 2 plays demostrate how RS should be used. Why can't LM see this. It baffles my mind that we have such and awesome talent playing the wrong position and not getting the ball in space. If they want to keep him at WR, then get him the ball in space, not running seem routes or button hooks.

we need receivers more than running backs

he'll do what we need him to do in that situation. just because he gets thrown to doesn't mean he was the first option

It baffles my mind how stupid you are.

Who's place in our backfield do you think he should be taking?

Yes, I believe that 4 years watching a kid gives the staff the knowledge and justification to put him in the best place.

you're right, he should be a running back, so here's the new depth chart:

Blue
Hilliard
Ford
Ware
Hill
Mcgee
Shepard

happy now?

But dammit, those high school recruiting videos were awesome!! If Les would have just used him correctly, he could have been a Percy Harvin.

So tired of reading these tired arse post about Russell Shepard not being used correctly.

This is a very timely and informative thread. I'm glad that you posted this, because it presents a very different angle with respect to RS than all of the previous RS is not being utlized correctly threads.

I, for one, am extreley thankful that you posted this, and I can hardly wait for your next thread. Personally, I hope that you will choose the topic of JJ vs. JL for your next thread.

Shep isn't physical enough to be an every down RB, especially for Les Miles. If he were bulkier and about 20 lbs heavier, then I could see it.

He's really not a pure receiver either, but at his current size, I think WR is the best position for him right now.

However, he is effective out of the backfield, but in a limited role, as a compliment to our big physical backs. IMO, he's best utilized on reverses, jet sweeps, zone reads, direct snaps, screens (provided he can catch it), etc. Something to get him out in space and allow him to use his speed and quickness.

Yes, exactly just like Percy Harvin/Florida and Skler Green/LSU, but again you have to watch the 2009 Auburn run and the 2010 North Carolina run on youtube, they were things of beauty. I would like to see one of those against BAMA. It's nice to see 4.3 speed in space.

Yeah, none of us have ever seen either of these runs. We should go Youtube them, since we never saw them happen.

What a great thread.

Just because RS is not a reliable receiver, due to bad hands and poor routes, doesn't mean he would be a better RB.
He would get less time at RB even if he was very good.
Based upon the performance of other receivers, he should be damn glad for the PT he's getting.

We did see it vs bama 2 years ago, and shep got caught from behind by mark Barron...
