I have been duck hunting in LA for 3 years now, this will be only my second early teal season. Last year before day light we high centered on a submerged stump. No biggie just had a buddy jump off and pull the flat boat to the side. Well a gator surfaced about 10 ft behind him. Neither of us grew up in LA, so we are both a bit timid around gators. Needless to say we didnt do any wading during early teal season. Just paddled or used the long tail to set and adjust decoys.

Well he is no longer able to hunt, so my wife is taking his place. We will see how that goes, lol. But paddling around and such will be a pain in the arse. So my question:

Do you wade around in early teal season to set/retrieve decoys? Are gator any real concern? I hunt Spring bayou, Pomme de terre, and PAC.

As always, the OD rocks and is the best board. Thanks for any and all info!

I have no desire to be wading in water chasing teal this time of year. I was with a group on Wham Brake teal hunting in high school and we had a gator come up between 4 of us. People always said never bring a dog around Wham Brake during teal season. I will never forget that shite and never develop the hate for teal enough to wade after them this time of the season.

I wouldn't do any wading unless you absolute have to. Gators are definitely out there, so be careful and if you're bringing a dog, I'd reconsider.

Eta: it's only 4 birds, so get in and get out.

When the gators go away...

Eta: Once it gets below about 70 degrees, they slow down and bed up for the winter, so it's all good for big duck season opener.

Gators are a concern for dogs but it isn't very likely they'll come after you

I guess it depends where you hunt. I hunt Biloxi marsh wma and I have yet to see a gator in the heart of the wma where I usually am.

I wade in it to pick up decoys and retrieve ducks. Gators don't bother me though. I have a pirougue to get in, but the rivets on the bottom catch the mud, so it's really and inconvience to use it. The only reason I do is because I don't want to wade half a mile into the marsh. I'd be a tired SOB

Yes, with shotgun in hand.

Hunted there with to many assholes that get of top of you.

Pomme de terre

Not enough water sofar this year. Was up there just a couple days ago and the lake is less then 10% full. Mud boat/pirouge will not make it out to the lake. Ditch almost dry.
