Beer Growler stores

There are quite a few of these in Atlanta now. Just wondering what the boards thoughts on them are. Think they're here to stay?

I've never heard of buying them at a store. I've always taken one with me from a pub or bar.

I've heard of it more and more... know there's a place in Birmingham that has taps for growlers as well.

the beer store near me usually has a couple taps for growler fills. i try to fill it before the weekend.

Up in nj they have stores that have 15-20 taps. I really wish we had them this way.

I was in ATL last week and went to one called Ale Yeah multiple times and was satisfied with the beer, tasted like it just came off the tap.

Not to common in CA and in fact there is a law of some type about breweries that sell growlers have to sell them in a growler with their logo on it. So I couldn't bring in a RR growler and get it filled at Lagunitas or what not. At least that is how it was.
Whole Foods sells some growlers of a local beer, but thats about it.

You've never been able to take them from a bar here, but new laws in areas of Atlanta/Georgia allow them to be sold in stores now.
I'm actually thinking of franchising one, which is why I was asking. Most everyone I've talked to about it think it's a great idea, while some think it's just a fad, which keeps sort of sticking in the back of my mind, but I do think it's a pretty damn good business opportunity. The profit margin on keg beer is amazing. It would be a location with 40 taps and also sells things like glassware, t shirts, etc. They actually have giant coozies for growlers now.

They just opended one near my house, I was thinking of going this weekend. Any suggestions?

Visited one when in Athens for my brother's graduation and loved it. If Louisiana law supports it, I would love to see something like that open up around here.

If it was The Beer Growler, they closed that one recently. I'm pretty sure that was the only one in Athens, however it's possible there was another smaller one. Just not enough of a market for higher end beers in a college town. They opened on in Avondale Estates(Decatur) and it's blown up and they're franchising them now.

Real common here in Asheville - the small breweries all sell that way at their stores.

Athens is a decent size college town, but college kids just aren't going to spend money on that kind of beer. Some will, but not nearly enough to really make money in a smaller market like that. Terrapin is based there, but I bet they sell maybe 5-10% of their product there. The rest is shipped out to Atlanta and other places around the south.
