Going to Gainesville for the first time and was wondering how strict they are about open containers while tailgating? And can you get a flask though security when entering the stadium? I've never have problems other places but heard Gainesville was strict.

I'll tell ya you can't just walk around with an open drink......it is confined to "tailgate areas."

Probably my least favorite opponent to tailgate at. Go to say you have been once, but I would be willing to bet come Monday you would have rathered just watching it at home. Alcohol is confined to deaignated areas, and I see no reason you couldn't get a well hidden flask in.

I went to gainsville two years ago and had a good time....I wouldn't bring it into the stadium, as I remember them being pretty strict (particularly on the P&G crowd)....outside was no problem, though...drinking was not a problem on campus as long as you are civil, but if you get off campus you would be arrested quickly...basically, don't cross that road that runs by the stadium with an open container and you are fine...

I've heard a lot of bad experiences from gainesville from people I know. Such a shame.

That's one thing you can never say bad about Bama. Tailgating there is legit, and I never walk in the stadium with less than 10 minis stashed throughout my clothes.

You need to be very careful. They are like Nazis in Gainesville.

I enjoyed myself in 2010. I had zero problems and carrying alcohol was no issue for me. The tailgating is few and far between though, really shitty pregame atmosphere.

I walked into Bama's stadium last year holding a flask and they didn't even notice. Easiest place ever.

My goodness it's awful. You have to think of where you are constantly AND be drunk at the same time. It's exhausting.

They are definitely more strict than the other campuses I have visited. I've been to Gainesville a couple of times but I don't plan on going back. I'm not a big fan of their pregame atmosphere, give me Bama, Auburn, UGA, etc over UF any day of the week. Now, I was impressed with the actual game atmosphere but nothing before that.

Hey geniuses..... People don't tailgate @ UF games cause there's great bars & restaurants directly across the street from Ben Hill Griffith stadium. It's definitely different from LSU game day experience but a nice change of pace. Also UF actually has a sports bar on campus that connects to their mammoth mall bookstore. It overlooks a swamp area too. Very cool....

I went in 2008. One member of our group was a U F grad and he was busted trying to sneak a flask in and had to throw it out before the cop confiscated his ticket. When he questioned it the cop told him one more word and he was going to jail.

Another guy in our group, an LSU alum, was checked entering in the stadium and was immediately arrested for trying to sneak a flask in. He said the jail was full of LSU fans busted for trying to sneak a flask into the stadium.

Later in the night two LSU fans at the top of the nose bleed section were minding their business while watching the game and were arrested for having a flask under their seat. A cop hanging out at the section portal looked up, saw the flask under their seat, walked up twenty something rows, asked to see their drink, smelled the liquor, and arrested them.

We also had few other highly intoxicated fans in our section get arrested, but these idiots got what they deserved.

Sneak it in at your own risk.

This sums up my experience as well, but this was 2004. Hopefully you'll have a better time.

I will never go back to Gainsville thats for sure. For one the drive is terrible and UF fans are, well UF fans. Now maybe in 2010 they were not that bad because they were no longer a top 10 program but the 2 times I went they were horrible to tailgate with.

I will just watch it on TV as others stated.
