Just heard it on the radio. He read several tweets of Michigan State players making fun of Michigan during the beatdown by Alabama. He said that the Big Ten should penalize Michigan State 15 yards on the first play when the Spartans play Michigan next month for taunting. He said that if you can penalize for taunting on the field, you should penalize for taunting on twitter.

How does stupidity like this get on the air?

Did they forget their similar beatdown by Alabama in their bowl game a couple seasons ago?

No doubt. Even Mississippi State destroyed Michigan, so there is a lot for both teams to tweet back and forth at the hands of the SEC.

At any rate, the real issue is that Esiasson wants a 15 yard penalty for college guys providing bulletin board material more than a month before the game. Idiocy.

A 3 loss Alabama team at that. Bama finished 3rd in their own division that year. And Michigan St wants to mock Michigan for that??????

I thought the Bama/MSU game at least looked like both teams were college teams.

Saturday one team looked like a CFB team, the other like a JV team who didn't have a coach. It was disgusting to watch

Did it? I didn't get to watch it, but the score was 49-7.

You're gonna have to make a convincing argument.

Both games could have been 70-0 if Bama played the entire game. I am pretty sure if Bama just ran the ball every play on Michigan they would have scored every drive. The MSU game I was actually worried our players were going to get seriously hurt out there. So yes that being said MSU players really had no reason to gloat.

That's crazy...especially coming from a former college and NFL QB. What a panzy.

Why is everyone insisting on taking the fun out of the game? It is a game. It is supposed to be fun. Some of the best memories I have of college football were the old Miami teams and how they had so much swag and they talked so much shite. If you didn't like it, then you get out there and fricking beat them. Until then...STFU.

Excessive celebration is a damn oxymoron IMO. Let them talk shite. Let them celebrate. It's a game.

Talking shite is one of the best parts of sporting, both as a player and as a fan.

Nah, I was at Michigan's practice, and I saw Denard Robinson intentionally ground the ball. Therefore, the pre-game penalties should offset.

As a Michigan fan I thought the tweets were pretty classless. Yes we got our arse handed to us on national primetime and State has beaten us four straight years, but you should still let do the talking on the field. Not a fan of trash talking a team on twitter but apparently State players don't really care.

FWIW this should not even be considered a penalty or whatever, just put it up on the bulletin board for even more motivation.

Well, exactly. I have no problem with Mich. St's coach making them run stadium steps or Michigan making a big deal of it as bulletin board material. That is what rivalries are all about. But, to actually make it a penalty that carries over into the game? Where does it stop?

Can a coach be penalized for what he says in a press conference?
Can a player be penalized for talking trash in an interview?

This is stupid beyond words and impossible to enforce.

The bama/msu bowl game is one of the biggest beatdowns i've seen in recent memory. to his credit, cousins kept getting up off the mat.
