They are going to have to add a lot of material to stretch this to 3 movies.
I'm not complaining though. Kinda sucks that we will have to wait till the 3rd to see the Battle of 5 Armies though.

Apparently they are including a lot of other material from other Tolkien material and some things that happened "off screen" in the book

LOTR = 3 books, 3 movies.
The Hobbit = 1 book, 3 movies.
And I seem to recall The Hobbit being shorter than any volume of LOTR.
Not complaining as I love the universe. Cant wait until December for the 1st.

I had doubts when they split it into two parts, now I dont know if this even going to sniff Lord of the Rings

Should have left it at two films. Lord of the Rings had tons of extra footage....and that's why they have the 900 hour special edition DVDs.
THey should have done the same with The Hobbit instead of adding an extra 3 hour movie.

The "close to the source material" line, used by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and others is just studio bullshite. They want 3 movies for money because they know they have a built-in audience. That's all. Any lip service to the contrary is just that.
I won't say it will suck, but I'll say it will be as good as it can be given the parameters - which are stretched and forced.

Yeah, its such a bullshite money grab. This time there will be no extended editions (pretty safe to assume and if there are they'll be extended by 15 minutes tops), and it just won't flow as well. Just give me the damn special editions instead of milking another year out of it.
