Have a PPR league draft in just over an hour. 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE. I have the 3rd overall pick. I have been doing some strategizing based on ADP from various sights.

I plan on going RB, RB, WR, TE, QB, WR.

I was thinking I could get Aaron Hernandez in the 4th round (46th overall pick) and Matt Ryan in the 5th (51st overall pick). Hoping I can get someone like Stevie Johnson or DeSean Jackson in the 6th. However, I've been second guessing myself recently thinking this may be too early to take both of these guys. What do yall think?

12 team league.

Your estimations are accurate.

They'll both outperform those draft spots too.

Ryan in 5th too early. He's been going much later in my drafts. Close to the 8th.

You shouldn't schedule your draft by position like that before you even know who will be available. Recipe for disaster

FWIW, Ryan has been going higher the past week or so

I'm just being realistic on what will be available based on where I'm picking. I have realistic RB and WRs targeted at each pick in the first 4 rounds, too. Had the third pick last weekend and kind of got blindsided when I got to round 2 and there were no RBs I liked. Ended up getting Julio Jones at 22 overall (2nd round) and Trent Richardson at 27 overall (3rd round), but wasn't thrilled about it. The Jones pick has grown on me over the week, though. However, that is too many Alabama players for my liking.

You won't get Hernandez after 4th in my opinion.

J. Graham fell to me in the second round - 22 overall. I went Rice, Graham, Sproles, Bowe (obviously didn't need a second TE here), Stevie Johnson, M. Ryan, R. Wayne.

So I got M. Ryan in the 6th instead of 5th where I originally planned. A Hernandez went a lot later than I expected - 6th round. He went behind Graham, Gronk, and Gates in terms of TEs.

My draft ended up like this:
1. Ray Rice
2. Jimmie Graham
3. Darren Sproles
4. Dwayne Bowe
5. Stevie Johnson - I deviated from my original plans here as I originally planned to take Ryan hereand try and get Johnson in the 6th, but P. Manning, Rivers, and Romo were still available. Figured I could wait another round and would have taken any of those if needed - however, all were gone except Matt Ryan so I didn't have to make a decision
6. Matt Ryan
7. Reggine Wayne
8. Kenny Britt - hopefully back to full strength after first 2-3 weeks
9. Robert Griffin III
10. Felix Jones
11. Houston Texans
12. Daniel Thomas
13. Branden Lafell
14. Plaxico Burress - took a flyer here
15. Matt Bryant
16. Knowshon Moreno - didn't realize he had dropped to 3rd string until after the draft - knew it was too good to be true.

Don't love my backup running backs, but all in all, I'm happy with this team in a 12 team PPR league.

Daniel Thomas

He's looking good some far. He and Reggie could really be the 1-2 punch they were looking for last year.

Very very solid draft. I like the Reggie Wayne pick. I am looking to draft him this year....I feel he will outplay his draft position.

yeah, the TE situation getting worse

Witten isn't a sure thing and now neither is Finley

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel suspects Jermichael Finley could lose snaps to D.J. Williams this year.

Packers TE D.J. Williams was "having one of the best camps of anyone on the team"..The rich get richer. Confirming that Williams has opened eyes, OC Tom Clements is now devising ways to get his second tight end on the field

Had him last year, Sucked arse, and if now he's competing for TE targets, then he's off my list

Meh:

quote:

Williams has had a strong training camp, but we doubt his increased role will be enough to have a major impact on Finley's fantasy output. Williams is more of an H-back type valued for his versatility and reliable hands

DJ Williams has one career reception for 7 yards. I doubt he'll have much of an impact on Finley's season

Why are people so against drafting a D that you want early?
The Texans open up against Miami, Jacksonville, Denver, Tennessee, Jets to open the season. Indianapolis and Minnesota week 15 and 16 - the playoffs. I'll take that over any of the other players taken around where I took the Texans.

Who am I just dying to pick up here in this draft that I would actually play?

Here are the 11th (when I took the Texans) and 12th round of my draft. I would hope I don't have to play anyone drafted down here with the guys I already had on my team.

I'm Dr. Dickhead.

Round: 11
(121) Houston No Namers - Brandon Pettigrew TE
(122) New Jersey Guidos - Stephen Hill WR
** (123) Dr. Dickhead - Texans D/ST D/ST
(124) CAPTAIN SACK - Ravens D/ST D/ST
(125) Manning Around Town - Mike Williams WR
(126) Ed Hoculi - Andy Dalton QB
(127) Urban Achievers - Bernard Scott RB
(128) T TT - Steelers D/ST D/ST
(129) The Bald Badasses - Bears D/ST D/ST
(130) Poopie Pants - Seahawks D/ST D/ST
(131) Beaumont arse Slappers - Lions D/ST D/ST
(132) Myron Muffdiver - Jets D/ST D/ST

Round: 12
(133) Myron Muffdiver - Nate Burleson WR
(134) Beaumont arse Slappers - Joe Flacco QB
(135) Poopie Pants - Carson Palmer QB
(136) The Bald Badasses - Josh Freeman QB
(137) T TT - Evan Royster RB
(138) Urban Achievers - Falcons D/ST D/ST
(139) Ed Hoculi - Randy Moss WR
(140) Manning Around Town - Eagles D/ST D/ST
(141) CAPTAIN SACK - Laurent Robinson WR
** (142) Dr. Dickhead - Daniel Thomas RB
(143) New Jersey Guidos - Isaiah Pead RB
(144) Houston No Namers - Shane Vereen RB

The difference between the best defense and the 10th-12th best defense isn't that great. The chances you picked up the best defense is a crapshoot anyway. So why not just wait until the 2nd to last round and pick up a defense that is probably not going to be that much worse and might actually be better?

Pretty much any WR or RB available. I'd rather take a chance that Mike Williams bounces back, Royster becomes the starter or Isiah Pead is better than expected. For instance, last year when everyone started to take defenses, I drafted Steve Smith. A few years ago I drafted McFadden in the same situation.
