I've looked at it a little bit but I'm saving it for the doldrums after the show knowing there's no book coming out anytime soon.

I am about 2/3rds though the book. It is good for a 'Simarillianisque' outlook of Westeros and Essos. The family trees in the back are impressive though.

I've made it clear I'm not book purist. I'll only be upset if they cut out things which turn out to be significant plot points in the book. I also never really cared for the Iron Born's extended role in book 4, but I assume it's included for a reason. Any chance they combine those characters in to Balon Greyjoy? Must be a reason he's still alive. Forgive me if that has already been discussed.

TWOIAF does not get the credit it deserves on this board. It 100% fulfills its obligations as a history book. I loved every line of it.

Kind of upset about Aegon not being in the show possibly. His storyline is by far my favorite. I just love the Targaryen/possibly Blackfyre loyalist faction and how they have been plotting such an overarching scheme.

Finally finished all the books... I guess it's time to start watching the show now. I assume that at this point in this thread anything in the books is fair game?

Why the hate for Aegon? He's said to be every bit a Targ/blackfyre. Inspires men. Conquers freaking Storms End which hadn't been done without Dragons. Kid is wrecking shop and isn't an a-hole. He's like one of 5 good guys left in the book.
