Director of Compliance asked again today and reiterated he is "permanently ineligible" according to Matt Mascona.

How can you be permanently ineligible at LSU but not at every other FCS school if he sits out?

It's clearly the school's decision.

Moscona made a good point. If he can never come back, it means this was his 4th positive. When were they gonna tell us about his suspension for one year?

He was made "permanently ineligible" by the school. The school has the right to make anyone ineligible to play athletics. If he sits out for a year he would be eligible to play at any other university including FBS, not limited to FCS. If he wants to play football in 2012 it will be at FCS or lower level.

So the compliance office decided that? So our compliance office, cough Alleva, is making this call and acting like he "can't" come back. He can, we just won't let him.

bullshite move.

Who knows, this story keeps changing every minute. You can't take Matt's word for anything.

All rules can be bent. That is why all reporting are saying the "possibility" of returning to the football team. If the school and Les feels that Tyrann has made a significant change in his life next year then they could bend the rules. Everyone I've seen reporting the story has said it's "not guaranteed" but "possible". It's a school rule not an NCAA rule. I wouldn't bet on it happening but wouldn't be completely dismissal of the possibility because the rules say he can't. If I'm Tyrann and I only have the hope and possibility of getting back on the team, I'm gone. His future is football. He has to be playing football to fulfill that.

This is why it's so dumb. We're going to allow compliance officials dictate internal football policy when this kid could be eligible to play for every other school in the country? Sounds like Alleva pushing this through the compliance department and it's really unfortunate.

Not sure I understand. LSU is making Mathieu ineligible. This is not an NCAA violation which is causing him to be ineligible. The athletic department (Yes, Alleva) said by violating the team policies that he is no longer going to be eligible to play football at LSU per team policies. Clearly, LSU can decide that any player "can't" play football any longer, which is what has happened here. If they want to say he can't play here, then he can't.

I don't think they are letting the compliance officials dictate anything. This is a decision that was reached by multiple levels of personnel, not just the compliance officer that made this recent announcement. He would be eligible to play for other FBS schools in 2013, yes, because he did not violate their team policies. We could also pick up Michael Dyer, who was recently kicked off the team at Arkansas State, since he only violated their team policy. He just could not play until 2013.

we have the most "hands on" compliance department in the SEC. Maybe the nation.

We drug test more frequently, hell Shep got a 4 game suspension for just telling Loston that someone was coming to talk to him..

it is an NCAA violation to fail to adhere to your internal drug policy though...their hands are probably tied.

seems like Bahnsen is trying to act like he can never come back for cover. Why else are we having these threads stating he can't come back? We all know he can't for next year. But why not 2013?
