I don't understand the point of this article?

Only a handful of dumb people and Laker homers actually think Kobe is better than Jordan... but Kobe and now Lebron are probably the closest thing to Jordan since he retired. Why is it necessary to denigrate his accomplishments?

I can only hope he is trolling. By this logic, no player has ever won a title. Are you not allowed to have good teammates?

Lebron apparently isnt

Point is, Jordan was THE man on 6 title teams. He was the alpha dog and best player in the league without a doubt during all of those years.

Kobe could get two or three more titles and still not be on the level where Jordan stands alone.

Bill Russell nearly won a dozen rings and is not on Jordan's level. Kobe is Top 10 and maybe Top 5 all time; no shame in that.

Sorry he has been blessed with a league/commissioner that actually will do what it takes to have the Lakers in the finals.

Sure they do.

That's why this happened

All he is saying is that unlike with every title Jordan or magic won, for most of kobes titles he was not the most dominate player on the court.

It is just a stupid fricking article. I guess Shaq did not win a title with the Heat, Wade never won this year, Scottie never one with the Bulls, etc.

Who gives a frick if you are the best player or not on the team? Kobe was arguably the second best player in the league and the second best player on the team with the Lakers three-peat.

The point is that 98% of the population understands that Jordan should be rated higher than Kobe. Whitlock does not need to spew this garbage. How can you fault someone for playing in a desirable city/franchise with an excellent front office and a couple of nice draft picks?

It should be that high, but it isn't. Out of sight, out of mind crowd needs reminders...just not from Whitlock.

Kobe had the most physically dominant big man ever for three of his titles and the best frontline in the league for the other two.

Jordan did have Pippen and good role players, but Kobe has had some damn good role players, too.

Russell also had help from 5 other Hall of Fame players during that run of excellence in a league with fewer teams, virtually no player movement and a shorter, less grueling playoff season.

maybe Chris Paul to the Lakers was vetoed for "basketball reasons" bc the Lakers getting him would have precluded them from getting Howard... a dominant big man is better for your title hopes than a 6'0" PG with dodgy knees

I like how people downplay the players on those Bulls teams

Kobe still had to be the best player of his era to win 5 titles though

I'm not downplaying the players? Where did you read that? From elsewhere, I'm sure.

Horace Grant on the first two teams and Rodman on the next three where key guys (the latter is a hall of famer for rebounding a D). There were essential players to win titles.

The rest were just role players but not stars in anyway. Jordan and Kobe have enjoyed similar role players in quality.

Depending on how you define Kobe's era, Lebron, Shaq, and Duncan are all better than Kobe
