tall corners worry me like simon.. cutting and changing directions aren't as quick as shorter corners.. i still think simon is a beast but i guess we'll find out soon enough how he does this year

I was at LSU when Jeff Dale played opposite Liffort Hobley. Hands down the best safety combo we've ever had. Hobley had character issues that aborted his pro career. Dale was productive in the NFL. Boy, they were good. They also had Jimmy Britt at corner. He belongs in any list of second best corner to ever play at LSU.

I believe Billy Masters - circ mid 60's was a running back at 6-5 to 6-6 and played a little strong safety. Any of you old farts like me remember him?

I was at LSU '82-'85 and I agree. Hobley/Dale were our best safety combo ever. One of the great but unheralded plays in LSU history was Dale's int and return for a TD vs OM in '84 to preserve victory.

Wasn't Eugene the other corner on that team? Always was berated when he was here and unfavorably compared to the other 3...then he had the longest NFL career out of any of them.

Eugene Daniel played (I think) '81-'83. Britt was a CB through '82. Kevin Guidry, an outstanding CB in his own right, played '84-'87. Norman Jefferson played CB '83-'86.

Lot of great secondary talent back then.

No Liffort had injury issues that ended his career. He battled deep, ugly depression after the accidental drowning of his 5 year old daughter but nothing that would lead one to question his character.

Dale has had a productive post-football career, too. Went into hospital administration and has done very well.
