So I went to the "friendly" at Red Bull Arena last friday. I suppose, after watching years of the USMNT play sides like El Salvador, I was a bit more prepared for chaos but it was still a bit crazier than I expected.

The scene was around 15k wasted El Salvadorians who'd seemingly been tailgating all day in the broiling dirt parking lots and about a thousand Roma fans. Osvaldo scored around 3 minutes into the match and from that point forward any semblance of friendliness vanished.

Water bottles, shoes, half eaten apples consistently showered any Roma player that dared come near a sideline. Skirmishes erupted everywhere with the few hundred Roma fans that hadn't realized sitting anywhere but the Roma section was a prescription for disaster. Beer soaked and bruised, they all quickly relocated to the Roma curve in time for fat El Salvadorians to run drunkenly onto the pitch and try to moon the Roma section before security guards tackled them and fought them into the tunnels.

By the 70th minute, it seemed that a majority of the biggest trouble makers had been removed when a hard tackle by Tachtsisdis was met with a head butt to the chin from an El Salvadorian player. Under a shower of the few shoes and fruit that had been held aside for just such an opportunity, Tachtsidis lost it and all 6'4" 220 of him managed to throw half his teammates and 2 officials aside on his way to spiking the head butter into the turf and officializing his spot on the AS Roma roster with a friendly red card.

Outside of the stadium, both before and after the match, the El Salvadorian fans were pretty mellow and there were no incidents that I witnessed at all. However, kickoff to final whistle, I have to credit them on bringing their A game.

I kinda want to find the nearest central american and kick them square in the nuts after reading this, just reminds me of all the bullshite the USMNT has put up with.

ETA: C'mon man, you can't have a Roma update without a Bradley report on this board now, you know this.

Animals.

Kind of like Gold Cup Final 2011. But not nearly as bad.

I apologize.

Bradley played very well as I've thought he did against Liverpool and the previous friendly as well. He started in central midfield again with Tachtsidis still in De Rossi's role and Pjanic a bit higher. He did a fantastic job winning balls and keeping possession. However, the attack was a bit choppier as El Salvador was fouling like crazy to slow down the one touch, fast breaks. Which, as ugly as it was at times, is probably a better preparation for the season than other friendlies.

He was subbed out at halftime along with almost all the regulars probably more due to how nasty the match was.

Luckily the MS 13 didnt show up... or perhaps they did...

LFC v Roma was fun in Boston... There were far more LFC fans in attendance, as expected... It was OK to see Bradley score...

No incidents to report from my vantage point.

OF course not. Because American fans are sane, for the most part.

I think it was mainly construction workers. In fairness, there were really hardly any incidents outside of the stadium at all, they just went haywire when the match started.

I ended up being able to make it to Fenway but it was kind of last minute deal where I was able to take off work at lunch and drove up with a friend and made it a few minutes after kickoff. Yeah, it was cool atmosphere.

At Red Bull Arena, even the non partisan fans with EPL and MLS shirts all ran for cover in the Roma section. There was nothing but blue shirts and, of course, Barca shirts which must be the official 2nd shirt of any Central American team, anywhere in the stadium after the first 15 minutes.
