Any good butchers in Monroe?

Or any place to get good fresh meat and fish?

I'm sick and tired of having to rely on Brookshire's and the like. When I lived in NOLA, I got spoiled by my butcher and all the places where fresh fish could be bought.

As of now, Captain Avery's is my go to seafood place, but I'd like to know if there is better.

You can get fresh fish at Vieux Carre on 18th. Capt A's has the best shrimp, oysters, picked crab and catfish. Brooks hires gets fresh mussels and little neck clams every Thursday...about the only seafood I buy there.

For meat, on the high end try VC for prime, then I buy Brookshires. You won't find a butcher shop like you're thinking.

Don't they like to be called "meat cutters" now?

That's extremely disappointing in a town like this. I live around the corner from Brookshire's and VC. I can only afford to get meat from VC about once a month, and the girlfriend appreciates it when I do. They are damn proud of their (small) selection.

There is a butcher shop in RayVegas I believe alled Robinsons Meat Market. My folks used to buy some fair meat there. I don't believe they have fish.

Take a ride over to Rayville and go to Robinson's Meat Market. No prime, but I've never had a problem with a steak from there and the ground beef is so far superior to what you buy at Brookshire's. Not altogether expensive either. I went last weekend and got 2 whole chickens, 2 bone in ribeyes, and 6 frozen catfish filets for between $30-$40.

If going to Rayvegas, might as well just eat at the Sonic.

When you have to leave Monroe because Rayville has better choices, you realize just how shitty your life is.

True dat. We're slowly being consumed by halfway houses for rehabs. Could be worse, we could always live in Start.

Captain Avery's is also my go to place for shrimp and oysters. I went to Vieux Carre once and wasn't overly impressed. Didn't want to mortgage my house for a few steaks.

You presume that I post the same as I act. The fact that you make assumptions about people's lives based on their internet posts leads me to conclude that you are a completely dumb arse.

In other news, I just wanted a butcher.

Balls is mad that you talk shite about Rayvegas whilst he is eating car bombs this evening.

Go see Randall Garvin at Finks and Old Sterlington for meats.

For the OP: Yep. Go to Randal's and get a few good steaks...while you're in the neighborhood, hit Cascio's and eat Rosie's muff...pretty damn good. Tip...quit wallowing in shite and open up...enjoy your surroundings...it'll be good for you.

I've finally realized that I'll be here much longer than the one year I planned on. Once I realized that, I started venturing out. I've been to Randall's and Cascio's quite a few times. I didn't know Randall's had steaks.

I'm going to Cotton for dinner tomorrow night.

Randal's guy will cut them right there in front of you, if you don't like the cuts he keeps in the cooler.

I'm going to go all out. I have heard nothing but excellent things since my last failed trip. This will be my first dinner trip, and I'm ready for some good food.
