he posted to his facebook account on 7/13, so either he was still around then or someone else is posting to his account.

At BRHS in 67-68-69, he had a small cage-type office in the gym. Getting out of line meant 10 minutes with the gloves in there. No place to run.

He used to drive to the Berry to coach me for track every now and then. My old man was kind of obsessed and one of his friends in BR dropped coach Garland's name. I went to LSU a few times to do some workouts with him as well. A very interesting character. There was a pack of people being coached/worked out by him at LSU...some trying to make it in the NFL, college athletes, etc. I was 17/18 and drinking like a fish. I wanted no part of college track...just wanted to have fun. He knew what he was doing though. When I got to LSU I gave him a ring every now and then. He remembered me and reminded me to watch my step at the bars around LSU-lol!

I was just coming here to say this.
Also he gave an opening ceremony speech for the Rough Cuts league when I was in 7th grade and it must have lasted an hour.

"ya hands are ya accelerator son...the faster you pump your arms, the faster ya run."

Funny thing is, I repeated this tonight at practice and gave him credit. Wow.

Boots was a friend of my dad's and taught me perfect running form when I was 13...unfortunately I was still a naturally slow arse white boy. I just looked good while being outrun by everyone else.

Legend.
I quote him at least once a week.

That's a good one. I've used his 'rounding the base' technique, which is sometimes controversial, with all of my kids ball teams. Glad Boots was brought up
