We had a thread a while back on all different caliber sizes and uses. I'd like to start the same for shotguns. I grew up in LA but as stupid as it sounds, never been duck hunting. I'd like to go a few times this coming season out of venice and a few places in tx. I've got an 870 express supermag and have done nothing but shoot clay with it.

If you could OB, please give me a run down on what to use for different reasons... i.e. 2 3/4", 3", 3 1/2" shells? size of shot? reasons?

FWIW out of texas I'll be using my camo green kayak to hunt. I've heard it's pretty easy to hunt out of kayaks. Just bring a few decoys, floating shotgun case and set up. I'll be going with someone who can ID ducks, just wondering what else I'd need to bring.

I like #6 shot for teal, 2 or 4 for regular duck season.

I can get by with 2.75" for teal season, but definitely 3" for regular season.

For geese I like either BB or BBB in 3"

I only use 3.5 BBs. I don't like chasing cripples and I don't have to worry about if I have the right shells or not.

I wouldn't get anything smaller than 3in 4s and I think 2s would be better.

Load a 3.5 inch BB first, then a 3 inch #2, engage the action so the 3 inch #2 is your first shot. Put one more 3 inch #2 in the bottom.

When you shoot you get #2, #2, the 3.5 inch BB's for the going away or cripple whacker.

That's just me. We field hunt so we take longer shots then say someone in the timber.

I heard people love it. But it's expensive.

I can buy 2 boxes of PMC for that price and it works just fine.

I'm not a duck hunter, I've never even tried. I just thought it was kinda cool.

They're supposed to be more pellets per shot or some bullshite, but I've never had a problem hitting skeet with regular Remington shells. I guess hunter id would be helpful, unless you killed over your limit and then there's proof you screwed up. Maybe I'm over thinking this.

I really like the Winchester Hi-Speed in 3 1/2 or 3", #2. They shoot up to 1550 fps, so less lead and hit harder. And, they're cheaper than Remington or Federals.
