I have 25k that I would like to put somewhere for 6mths to a yr. What would be the best options for me. I do understand that I would not have substantial gains in such a short time frame.
TIA
TIA

Still depends on your tolerance for risk. Returns on short-term money are so low now that you might as well just keep it in cash. The return on a $25K investment is still basically beer money.
That said, if you are willing to swing from the chandeliers you can find ways to win or lose big. The problem of course is knowing ahead of time which is which.

Loan it to me. I'll pay 5% interest.

OP, take this. Secure it with a mortgage on his property and you are golden.

My bank started out offering 4.4% on checking account balances up to $25,000.00. This number is down to 2.9% now, but still not a bad return on your money for a short term investment--beer money!

If you don't mind a little risk, foreign currency CD's. Other countries pay higher interest rates. You will take currency risks tho, but I think the risk are minimal

What bank can you get rates like that? Most offer like .1%!

I hate to share one of my secrets but you frickers don't live around me.
You want a risk free return on some of that money? Try a tactic from my bag of tricks.
Get on craigslist
Search "must sell"
I flip stuff all the time from people who need to sell something that day.
I bought a BMW last year for $17,000 from a guy who lost his job and needed the money asap. I turned around 2 weeks later and sold it for $22,000.
That is my best short term flip. Others usually range in the $500 - $1,500 range.
