I am in the mood to go look at some 1911s and spend some money this afternoon. Anyone suggest a good gun shop in Baton Rouge (not Cabela's)? Which place is has the best selection? Thanks guys.

Jim's has the best 1911 selection in LA, if not the entire South. His prices can be a bit high, but he will probably have just about any 1911 you can imagine in stock.

And you said you were ready to spend some money. This thread should end now IMO

Jim's has the best selection. I'd recommend driving a little further south on Airline to Prairieville and check out Hebert Guns. They have a good selection as well.

+1 for Heberts

Your arse will be bleeding by the time you leave Jim's.

How are the people at Jim's? Helpful? Friendly? Nothing I hate more than an a-hole gun store guy. Went to Shooters in Lafayette yesterday and those guys were great. Really enjoyed the shop.

Jim's will have the best selection in BR and will, without a doubt, have the highest prices. I'd go there to look at and "finger" a few guns.

Hebert's will have a good selection. But woe be unto you if you encounter an issue with the gun (or anything else) and have to go back. (Check out Hebert threads on Bayou Shooter).

Bowie Outfitters and Precision would be good places from which to order a gun. Most local dealers can get one in a matter of hours from Lipsey's.

My suggestion: go to Jim's and look at the guns. Find one that you like and feels comfortable. Go back home. Post your findings here for us to converse about. Open a new tab in your browser and go to your favorite gun website. Purchase it there. Call Louisiana Gun and Reloading Supply and notify them of your purchase and that you listed them for the FFL transfer. In one week, post pictures of your new gun.

By doing this, you get the best deal on the exact gun you want, you save on taxes, usually no shipping charge, and only a $20 transfer fee.

This is the route that I have gone in the past and the only way that I will purchase a gun in the future.

Are they still open? I thought I heard on here at some point that, after they moved, they closed...

Don't mind spending the extra money to get the 1911 that I want to add to my collection. It is almost impossible to find a good 1911 in Houma ( I think I bought the only two I have ever seen). I also don't like buying guns online, maybe I don't trust it or maybe I am just intirely to impatient to wait for my new toy to come in.

I completely understand the impatient part. I hate waiting for my guns to arrive. However, saving upwards of $200 makes it much easier. I either use the money to get a little bit nicer gun, upgrade the one that I get, or ammo.
