I'll be staying in New Orleans for two days at the end of August, wondering where I should eat. Most times I've gone I have eaten at the touristy spots such as Hard Rock and a few restaurants on Convention Center and off Bourbon. Looking for authentic New Orleans cuisine this time around.

Probably just lunch and dinner. Price range is $60-100 for two to eat.

Dinner- Cochon, Bon Ton, Pelican Club, Muriels, Mr. B's.

For that lunch, I will give you two lower placed options, so that you can spend a little more at a dinner place listed above.
Johhny's Po-boys or Coops Place

It seems as if the posters who have responded are limiting you to the area you have been to previously. I'm not sure that's what you meant. But based upon your stated criteria, off the top of my head, I'd suggest trying the following:

Boucherie - 8115 Jeannette just off Carrollton - need a cab ride and a reservation; but it's one of the best values in town and pretty casual; worth the 15 minute ride

Herbsaint - corner of St. Charles and Girod - good lunch deals (don't let any posters say it's not "authentic"; it is definitely N.O. and So. Louisiana influenced)

Cochon - 930 Tchouptilouas - well prepared "country", "cajun/creole" (in a loose definition)

Mr. B's - corner of Iberville and Royal in the French Quarter; polished creole cuisine

Jacques-imo's - another cab ride and get there very, very early in the evening - like 5:30 or 6; but it's a great "first time" experience and sort of a classic

There are others.

Very good suggestion. A short cab ride down Tchoupitoula.

if you just want a rediculously good burger, go down to the Marigney to Checkpoint Charlies. It's a bar with one really good burger and a laundromat and live bands at night.

Isn't it the same Cisco burger that Igor serves at his other places?

I concluded that place was too busy for me to eat at if I had to get there that early.

I'm sure Chiba loves the overflow business they get from that place.

Oh it takes dedication. Either you get there early OR you spend awhile drinking at the bar. Now some people don't mind that, and that's cool.

And they're so similar.

we used to go all the time to have an excuse to hit up Maple Leaf while waiting as well as going after our meal to see the band. The hostess will come next door to call you when your table is ready.
