Both would be big, big moves.... certainly would give some positive light into the situation at Anfield.... Sturridge seems like the typical type of player Liverpool loves....not the biggest name, but gets results and can fill up a stat sheet..... and Dempsey as a Red..... honestly, if that were to happen, I could easily see Liverpool supplanting Arsenal as the team of choice for mid-interest American soccer fans.... you know, the fans that only watch soccer during the World Cup when America is playing, if Keeping up with the Kardashians or American Idol isn't on....

I don't really understand the Dempsey interest, to be quite honest. I know he could have a positive impact on the squad, but it just seems he goes completely against our transfer market strategy. He'll be 30 before the end of the season and he is already on 60k a week and will be looking for a raise. It's one thing if he was coming on a free like Bellamy or Gary McAllister did.

I have a hunch that if we did buy him, it would be to expand into the American market a little bit more.

With that said, I think he wants to play CL ball. Why move to LFC? We don't have much to offer him right now.

Really great stuff, but then again I expected nothing less from a gentleman as well versed in the game as you. Really enjoyed reading.

I'm especially interested in how the left wing plays out. We all know I bitched all season long about Glenn, but I actually think he'll thrive in this system. However, if stu-pot refuses to start cutting inside and taking men on we could be looking at a huge weakness going forward. Is that where Ramirez is supposed to fit in?

So does anyone have a clue as to what transfers are actually going to happen? Because in less than 24 hours I have gone from being fairly optimistic about signing Ramirez to fairly positive we are not going to land Ramirez... thinking we won't get Dempsey, but now it looks like we are making a push for Dempsey.

And Borini is still out there as a possibility.

I don't know what to think.

eta: as an Ameritard I would love to get Dempsey. But logically, I would much rather Ramirez.

BBC reporting Borini will likely be the first completed transfer for LFC.

Quoting from Rodgers' press conference I just watched:

quote:

The reality is we've only made 3 or 4 inquiries about players and we hopefully can close 1 deal this week, maybe 2, but certainly hopefully we can do 1.

When asked about Granero:

quote:

I will never speak about targets and possible players. It's not something that I like to do to be honest, so all I will say is there's been a whole raft of players linked with coming to Liverpool and there's very very few of them that are actually real targets for us.

Waiting to see where exactly this news is coming from.

It's been no secret that Rodgers has been interested in buying him--supposedly rates him very highly from Borini's Swansea loan period last year.

However, it's news to anyone that he's for sale at all and the BBC reported price isn't that much more than Roma has just paid in total.

However, I've not heard anything from any usual sources of AS Roma news yet. Everything in Italian comes from the BBC report so far.
It could be true though I suppose if it's part of Roma's effort to outdo Juve and Inter for Mattia Destro.

I'm not sure either. I thought it was dead in the water when he went to Roma and I thought he even came out and said he had no interest in Liverpool at all. After listening to Brendan Rodgers' press conference, he seems confident that there will be a signing this week and from everything that is being reported it will be either Ramirez or Borini. Very odd situation.

Yeah, Roma just bought out the co-ownership deal from Parma a couple of weeks ago and Borini came out saying he was a Roma player and excited about working with Zeman etc etc.

It's still possible, of course, that Zeman/Sabatini are deciding this and not Borini.

However, Borini seems to fit Zeman's style as perfectly as he would/has Rodgers'.

If he does go, I'm glad it may be to Liverpool but I'd be really surprised just since there's been no reason to think Roma are in a situation where there's need to let any younger talent go even if Destro is brought in.

Also, with fans already angry (and even Totti muttering) about the lack of any matured, big name signings, selling Borini would set off an epic firestorm.

Keep in mind the BBC also reported Roberto Martinez as Liverpool manager a done deal.

I wonder if Aquilani is involved in the "deal" at all.

Also stupid rumors that Carroll might go on loan to Milan. Bad reporting is just so stupid.

If Rodgers intends to sell AC at some point in the future because he just doesn't see him fitting the style of play, this would be a good way to put him on display for everyone to see. If he has truly regained his form from his days at Newcastle, a good season in Milan could see us recoup a decent portion of that £35m. Of course, it may be a bit difficult to get a game with Ibra ahead of him.
