Since I've been thinking about it, I was curious to see other opinions. What would be the series record if they played ten times?

I wasn't sure which Spain team to include, so I thought I may as well give people more freedom with that one.

Since I don't expect people to remember this Brazil team quite as well, here's their starting lineup from the Final (per wikipedia):

------------------------ Marcos

--------- Lucio -- Edmilson -- Roque Junior

Cafu -- Gilberto Silva -- Kleberson -- Roberto Carlos

---------------------- Ronaldinho

------------------ Rivaldo -- Ronaldo

Subs:
GK Dida
GK Rogerio Ceni
MF Ricardinho
DF Juliano Belletti
DF Anderson Polga
DF Junior
MF Vampeta
MF Juninho
MF Kaka
FW Edilson
FW Denilson
FW Luizao

Those are two disgustingly good teams.

Goal fest, however Brazil play with that mentality and would therefore win

ronaldo was still in his prime and ronaldinho was about to make that leap and signed for barca the following summer. lucio was a very good defender. fabio costa was an underrated brazilian keeper of that time IMHO. always liked him more than marcos.

honestly not sure who i'd take. i guess i'd consider where the 10 matches were to be played.

Assume either at a neutral site or 5 at home for each team.

I'd probably take Spain at full strength more times than not because of World Cup and Champions League winner Roque Junior and Kleberson

Cafu and Carlos

Spain would have their hands full

I feel like Spain would definitely have the advantage at keeper. Brazil would have an enormous advantage at forward. Defense and midfield are a little harder to determine. I would probably take Spain's bench, but I don't remember enough of the Brazilian bench players to feel confident about that.

Spain might be more balanced, but that Brazil team had ridiculous star power. I'd expect the 2002 Brazilians to win more than they lose if the teams played ten times.

Spain just went the whole of Euro 2012 conceding one goal, they've conceded 0 goals in knockout football since 2006.

It's Spain.

True, but:
a) Brazil was much stronger offensively (Ronaldo had as many goals at the 2002 World Cup as Spain did at the 2010 World Cup)
b) 2002 Brazil is the only team in World Cup history to go 7-0-0
c) The only goal they conceded in knockout play was on a fluke error by Lucio.

Spain certainly has advantages, though.

While Americans love that they beat Spain in the Confederations Cup, when people talk about international tournaments, nobody cares about it

While I'm not going to pretend the Confederations Cup is a major international tournament, it was a very impressive win.

That's great and all, but that doesn't change the fact that the previous statement was wrong.

It was a knockout game in a major tournament, even if the tournament is under the other 2 in importance the statement said knockout games since 06. Spain & the US both had their A team. All there is to it, pretty simple.
