Going tonight and was wondering what are some things other than steak that you have really liked from here? My wife is thinking about getting the turtle soup, then the Surf & Turf. I am leaning towards the Crabmeat Ravioli. TIA

The eggplant parm is better than I have gotten anywhere in BR.

go someplace else. You waste your time going there and not having steak, IMO.

Are you saying this because everything else sucks from there, or because you are someone that thinks because it is a steakhouse that steak is the only thing that should be ordered? My wife will be getting steak, so I will taste hers. I like other things besides steak. The french soup might be something I start with.

Spoken like somebody who's never had the veal chop. Its arguably the best item on the entire menu.

Yes, the wife will be getting steak. The veal chop sounds good also. I am almost stuck on the crabmeat ravioli. I might get both, and bring my leftovers to my son, lol.

I do not eat steak but my husband loves their steak. Their Italian is very good. I have also heard rave reviews about the french onion soup. Another friend of ours always gets the bbq shrimp appetizer. I would not hesitate to try the crab ravioli. We are going in the next couple of months so I may try it then in fact.

I've gotten their shrimp and grits and really liked it. I only got it because the first two times I'd gotten a steak. Next trip will be a steal though.

Would the board say Mr. John's is the best place in the LGD? I ate at Mayas on Friday and it was good, not great. Delmonico is very good.

What's the best place in the LGD?

Totally different places. Mr Johns is (imo) the best steak rest in the city and their other offerings are of supreme quality (full disclosure I am friends with the chef and the guy works like a madman and he is well versed in his craft, which extends well beyond steak and much more into Italian, as that is his forte). I think Maya's is one of the most underrated places in the city, among other reasons, because I don't know of any other place in the city that offers that type of food. They should get some AC though, and although IDGAF about price, its not cheap. That being said, I think the place is great.

Here's my little whiny bitch complaint about Mayas.

I got the seafood Paella which, while great, made you have to fight for every damn piece of seafood. Everything was in the shell - lobster, crab, everything.

But here I am complaining about my lobster and crab.

Well, we enjoyed our food. We started with the bbq shrimp. I like not having to peel them, plus there sauce was really good. My wife had the turtle soup while I had a ceased salad. The salad was a salad, but the turtle soup was very good. It had a lot of meat and a very rich and flavorful broth. My wife got the filet and lobster tail. Filet was excellent and we really enjoyed the lobster tail. I did get the crabmeat ravioli. The ravioli was cooked perfectly and they were stuffed with crabmeat. The asciago cream sauce was perfect with it. We got the cheesecake with caramel. This was great also. We left very fulfilled and no leftovers. Now, I will give this a nod over Ruth's Chris due to surroundings. Every time we have eaten at Ruth's, it is so quiet and serious. We liked the atmosphere of not feeling like everyone is stuck up. Well, this was my experience last night at Mr John's. Next I will get the veal chop.
