Making Jamaican goat curry over the weekend. I already tried Whole Foods, all they have is habaneros (there's a difference).

TIA

If habeneros all are you can find, they are a decent enough substitute. Have you tried Fresh Market?

The only difference is the shape, maybe color on occasion. They are of the same species and same flavor and heat level. If you drove to Whole Foods and passed on the Habanerros you are just wasting fossil fuel.

But I'm more interested in where you got the goat and what cut are you using?

Just for times like yours, I always have a few jars of Walkerswood Jerk Seasoning on hand.

The ingredients: Scallions, scotch bonnet peppers, salt, black pepper, allspice, nutmeg, citric acid, cane sugar, thyme.

It's sort of like a paste, but you can add it as an ingredient or use it as a marinade. Since Scotch Bonnets are the second ingredient, you can imagine that it packs some punch. I realize that you won't be able to find it in time for your current dish, but it's something you should keep in mind for future cooking. I bought a six pack on Amazon. I gave up looking for it locally, but some suggested World Market or Whole Paycheck.

I went to the LSU Dairy Store and got a goat shoulder. That's the only cut they had. I think there's a regular vendor at the Main Street Market on Saturdays who sells goat.
