Good morning gentlemen.

Decent article. You cannot simply look at the numbers and provide a direct correlation to success. Certainly regional factors come into play (talent in the South, Texas, California), but it's amazing the Vols spend so much.

Auburn nearly made a 300k jump from 2010 to 2011 after winning a NC.

Are you saying they lie, cheat, steal, or all?
Jk.

Seriously, to field possibly the most talented team in the nation while spending much less on recruiting is amazing.

Based on those numbers, we get a pretty damn good ROI.

That's a pretty useless stat, and could be have to do with how schools report and classify expenditures.

Regardless, do you think Les Miles has any issues with his budget? I would bet he spends whatever he wants.

Assistant coach: "Les, there is a stud I want to go recruit in Ohio."

Les: "Sorry coach, it's not in the budget."

Tennessee always spends the most $$ on recruiting. They have few recruits in their back yard and they have to go all over. This has always been the case with them....

It's not useless IMO, but you have a valid point regarding the reporting.

No one is saying our budget isn't big enough. I believe the point was to say it's impressive that we are so successful without having to have such a big budget.

Would like to see us spend more? We don't need to spend UT money but we really should stay competitive with Bama. That money probably includes technology as well as travel. Bama seems to recruit more nationally than we do, so travel expenses are probably a lot higher. We still need to stay competitive in the ARMS race.

I just wonder how much of the money spent is on promoting LSU to the in state schools, i.e., making us omnipresent at high schools throughout the state. Gotta say that growing up, if your parent hadn't gone to LSU or someone in your family, there was very little promotion of the school in the local communities and I grew up just over an hour away. Maybe that's changed a lot over the years as LSU has been very successful in the last 10 years, but I wonder how much they've tried to blanket Louisiana with LSU materials, etc., so that we have a foothold from when the recruits are very young.

It would be nice if they spent the $4.00 to attend WAFB's football awards ceremony each year. Button Burns and Kirby Smart enjoy it.

I've heard stories that Saban had big fights with Skip over spending on recruiting related expenses fwiw.

An example of this is the media guide, which is a basically a recruiting magazine. Some schools count it in their recruiting budget, some schools count it in their PR/media budget. Some probably split the cost.

These are also the past 2 fiscal years. I am willing to bet that the budget doubled this year.

Tenn has a huge disadvantage in trying to live up to days gone by. They need to be able to recruit like ND in their hay day since Tenn is so lacking in talent.

No no no fellas, my whole point is that we should be proud of getting a very good ROI (as another person stated).

We should be proud of a successful team that spends less.

I can also understand that Bama offers more recruits nationally: they send more letters out to recruits all over the country. When you take into consideration that each letter contains a $5000 check, 980k adds up pretty quickly
