Accepted a counteroffer today...time to start shopping for insurance. Any advice? Best place to find deals?

Thanks in advance!

ETA: searched and found one or two threads on the issue, but just hoping to get some additional information. Is it best to go with your car insurer? how far in advance of closing should i start shopping? Any tips on if i should go with a big/small deductible and any coverage I can decline which might reduce the cost?

You are going to get what you pay for. They're not the cheapest, but when Katrina hit I was glad I had State Farm.

Where are you located? If you are in hurricane country then you need to consider the different deductibles for named storms. Talk to agents from as many companies as you can, and definitely discuss bundling your homeowners with your auto insurance.

I know when I bought my house State Farm wanted almost 2x as much as what I was quoted by Liberty Mutual. I ruled them out immediatly. I think the prices depend mainly on where the house is located which hasnt been stated yet.

I went from Allstate to progressive

I saved $1,000 on car insurance every 6 months, and now have home insurance with them also. Did it all online.

I'd get a quote with State Farm, Liberty Mutual, and then call an independent agent and get them to run a quote with all of their companies.

I have my opinions about all companies (and most of them are unfavorable).

The market is pretty open in Prairieville. Assuming the house is somewhat new and you have good credit, you should be able to get a good rate.

I just purchased and have State Farm. Had my auto somewhere else but got a nice discount to bundle them at Statefarm. They also give some kind of bonus for having both there on your HO policy, something like lowering the hurricane deductible % and possibly the regular deductible % as well if I remember correctly.

I think State Farm is 2% Hurricane and .5 or 1% other perils when you have your auto with them. Not sure what it is when you only have home with them.

There are other options out there if you don't want the %age deductible.

You must've got hit with one of those 40% increases at renewal. We had several of those.

Exactly, which prompted my switch. I had always been meaning to give USAA a shot and Banker's rate increase pushed me to getting it done sooner rather later.

Got quoted by both state farm and liberty. State farm was a tad cheaper and had better deductibles for me. I went with them.
