With Ricky Seals-Jones decommiting from Texas because they would not let him play both basketball and football the nations top wide receiver prospect at 6'5 is considering LSU where coach Miles and Coach Jones have no problem with it.
What say the Rant, ok or not ok with one of our top football stars playing basketball too

When he's young he'll do both.

As a junior/senior he may have to pick one but maybe not

Exactly. Once he figures out which sport is going to pay him he'll focus on that. Give him what he wants now to get him here.

Tough for guys to play those two sports in college. It's been done a few times, but failed more often. I'd love for LSU to lock down RSJ. He's a bigtime player.

Yeah, there have been several football/baseball, football/track, and even a couple of baseball/basketball cases (Ben McDonald & Lyle Mouton), but football/basketball is Charlie Ward type of shite.

would this depend on which sport he gets the scholarship for? I'm assuming it would be football but, seems like basketball has a few to give.

NCAA rule is that if an athlete plays two sports and one of them is football then he scholarship has to be in football

easy. Do what Julius Peppers Did at UNC. He joined the basketball team after football was over with. I'm pretty sure this is the norm. I don't remember an athlete doing both at the same time. Everybody knows College Basketball doesn't 'really' begin until Feb/March anyway, so he would be fine

I love the link being from New Orleans and I agree let this guy play both sports to get quality players to LSU. Remember Chad Jones?

He will play football untill it is over then move over to basketball. During the time off after the SEC championship and before the National championship ( or whatever bowl we would go to) He may have time to attend some basketball practices, but overall, he would not be playing untill early January after the bowl game. He would miss the first half of the season, but would be available come SEC play.

Our coaches should be supportive of this and let them choose their paths once they get on campus. An athelete talented enough to play two D1 sports should at least be given that opportunity. Michael Clayton and Marcus Spears were both on the basketball roster in 2001. We all know how that story ends.

Tony Gonzalez at Cal and Julius Peppers at UNC joined the basketball team following football season.

Oh it can be done. Just difficult because those 2 sports overlap so much. Just like trying to play basketball and baseball at same time too.

That said....hope we get him!
