I saw a lot of talk about Elmer's island last week, so I thought everyone should be aware that the Island is closed this week so they can shoot a movie on the island..

Not sure what it is, but the studio trailers, equipment and motor homes were lined up going in this morning.

State Park. I think it costs $1 to get in there, and there's plenty of beach to fish with several sections of rocks. Last week during the week there was hardly anyone fishing it.

That said, last week the people camping on either side of me went to Elmer's and threw a cast net for shrimp....literally filled their 48 qt ice chests. I'm going back to the State Park next week, but was hoping to go to Elmer's with a cast net too. Hopefully they get this ghey movie set out of there by then...

If you didn't see it personally, I wouldnt believe it. I'm not doubting it could be done, but I was there 2 weeks ago, and only caught a handfull. I caught a ton of pogeys though.

It's a tale of a fateful trip. That started from this tropic port, aboard this tiny ship...or so I've heard.

I personally saw it, and they were 15-20 ct shrimp...very nice. I've done the same years ago, but it was at the Belle Pass rocks in Fourchon. I've never caught em like that at Elmer's. I caught one that day that the body of the shrimp was 13", and with the antennas...he was over 2' long. Thought about filleting that bastid.

I hope they travel slow through Golden Meadow and not end up like Sly.

Speckled trout candy. I caught a few last year when I was down in Grand Isle and I had some of the most violent strikes ever from speckled trout while using them.

Cool thing about pogies is that if you miss the fish, you can tell if it was a trout or not by the fang marks on the side. I used to always catch them in a cast net on the side of Hwy 1 on my way down. Haven't done things the hard way in years...need to get back to it.

Was out there on Saturday afternoon. They had a ton of cops and GW's out there and setting up what looked like a 3 or 4K sq foot tent with several smaller tents behind. I drove out to the west side of the island and launched there and was wondering what was going on.
