I'm considering taking the accounting courses to take the CPA exam, I would have to take about 7 acct courses since I have a business degree already.

So, is it worth it, the CPA?

Has anyone taken the courses at Tulane School of Continuing Education? Online? Elsewhere?

Thanks and have a great weekend

Never hurts to have it. But it's not an easy test by any means.

I got my degree 25 years ago when this online stuff wasn't even a concept much less real. So I don't know much about anyone's online schools.

Do you want to be in the accounting field? It's super fun.

Also, LSU has non-matriculating enrollment that I think allows you to take up to 20 hours or so without pursuing a degree.

Yes, I want to be in the acct field. Unfortunately I live in NOLA, so the commute would kill me.

Thanks

I dont know about Tulane, but I did 2 classes through LSU independent study after I graduated for the same reason (I only needed 5 hours to be CPA eligible).

The independent study classes are much cheaper than enrolling full time. Also, they were very easy because I only had to do the assignments and submit them online. Then I just had to show up to LSU 3 times for each class to take tests. But you can find a proctor to administer the exams in another city (NOLA in your case) if you dont want to drive in for the tests.

The one catch is that most state board of cpa's limit the amount of distance learning credits that will apply to your cpa eligibility. I work in TX now so I can't speak for LA. Check on LA's website to find out how many hours can be distance learning.

Also, if you were just a general business major and not an acct major, you may want to look into actually taking the real courses because they will probably prepare you for the CPA exam much better than distance learning (it was kind of a joke). Just a thought.

It's probably worth it depending on what you do now. I am currently studying for the exam while working but the career prospects are great. I know people that have done all three linked above and it worked out with Tulane and LSU being better than UNO recruiting wise though.
