Does anyone here own one of these? Reviews? Opinion on which one you would buy?

Purpose will be for hunting hogs mainly. Range <150yds. Not sure if I'd even scope it.

Don't own any 30-30's but have shot a Winchester and Marlin and really liked them. Also heard ammo isn't too expensive.

Why would you want to use iron sights if you have a scope on you'r rifle? I've killed running deer, and deer that were within spitting distance with my 30-30 aiming through the scope.
The only reason I could understand for see through mounts is, in case the scope breaks while you are hunting. I don't generaly worry about that issue.

Marlin 336 was my first gun. I have put well over 1000 rounds through it, and it has never jammed. Accurate within about 200 yards, and will spread a hog's guts from here to Tokyo.

I have a Marlin 30-30. Cannot imagine why anyone would now own one. Obsolete in both round and design.

why would you want to completely "disable" your iron sights? you put a scope on an AR but still have BUIS dont you?

All of this. The 336c is a very nice gun. Look at one in .35 remington if you want something with a little more umph. Very cool caliber.

I have a 336w with a nikon 2-7x32 ontop that I absolutely love. It's accurate, it carries well, and it busts deer arse. I hunt with it far more than any other gun I own.

See-through mounts are 100% pointless IMO. They force you to mount the scope high for no reason. Unless the deer is glued to the end of your barrel, you'll have no trouble shooting it with a 3 power scope. With a 2 power he can be glued to the barrel.

hmm... i havent seen many see through mounts but the ones on mine are pretty low. like no more than .75 of an inch low. just enough for you to see the irons.

How so? In both aspects.

What do I need a little more umph for? Bears?

This seems like a good deal^ Has a $200 scope on it. But who knows if it holds a zero anymore, user could have dropped it etc.

Slow fat bullet requiring lever evolution for anything other than a blunt. An action that is difficult to work. Does nothing better than anything else. When semi-autos were made, the lever should have died.

I've never wished my .30-30 had more arse, but some people like bigger stuff. Was just throwing out some ideas. My old man has a 336c in .35 remington and it's very sweet.

I've yet to shoot a 336 that didn't shoot minute-of-deer. I wouldn't be scared of a used one if it looked to be in good shape.

ETA: Something to check with used 336's is that the feed ramp lifts all the way up when working the action. If it still feels tight and the ramp lifts all the way up, the action hasn't been worked much and the gun likely hasn't been shot much.

You said you couldn't understand why anyone would want one, and there it is. They're really fun to shoot. Did you get hit in the forehead by the hammer as a child?
