Do any of you guys have one i was looking at getting a couple new ice chest for the camp and Im torn between a yeti or a k2.

I have the yeti but I have some friends that have a k2. Either one is going to be solid. Just depends on features.

They seem like they are very similar I think im going to go with the k2 and support a lafayette company.

I hear you. With what I paid I couldn't pass the yeti up but if I had to buy one buy another one I'd probably get a k2 sily to keep it local.

I have heard pretty much the same about both as far as ice retention for the most part. The main difference I have heard is over all strength in extreme test where the yeti was stronger which should make no difference unless you are a jackass.

I might need a tough ice chest with the idiots we have at our lease

My dad has the 160k2 and its works great. I'm about to buy the 90 for my boat.

I just got a 65 yeti.
At dealer cost. Only reason I could afford it.

I don't claim a yeti to hold ice any longer than a coleman. I do claim I can get a yeti to last a hell of a lot longer. Hinges do not break on a yeti.

Anybody seen a beverage box model? How much beer will it hold? Am I going to wish I bought the 30 quart instead of it?

Does it really cost $300 or $400 to build an ice chest with thicker insulation and better hinges and seals than an Igloo? I mean it's not like Yeti patented some breakthrough technology that no one else can use. Shouldn't it be fairly simple to build a thick 50 or 60 quart ice chest with insulation, hinges and a seal for under $200 and still make an enormous profit?
Oops, I just gave away my business plan.

I'd never heard of a K2 until this thread.
Something about them looks sort of....off.

You can say the same thing about a number of products.

The materials, craftsmanship and artisanship that goes into a pair of handmade boots is not comparable to a box molded out out of plastic on an assembly line. While the design of the Yeti might be considered industrial art, the methodical manufacture and therefore the expense of creating one is far from it.

Hawk you do agree that a Yeti/K2/Engel are much more expensive to produce (based on their construction) compared to an Igloo or Coleman?

Certainly more expensive to produce. And certainly a much superior product. But there is no way in the world that it costs 6 times as much to build a $300 45 qt. yeti as it does to build a $50 48 qt. igloo marine. Twice as much? 4 times as much? Maybe so, considering the economies of scale and stuff like that. But the profit margin in a Yeti has to be at least 10 or 15 times that of an igloo or coleman.
