| Looking at backpacks(daypacks). (Posted on 5/16/12 at 11:41 am)
I have a 1500ci Mountain Hardwear pack but for everyday use its a little too big. I'm looking at 3 different, smaller packs that would be better suited for day hikes, mountain biking, gym bag, multi use, etc. I've narrowed it down to 3: Osprey Talon 11 LINK Osprey Orb LINK Gregory Diablo 6 LINK Any experience with any of these or advice...TIA

I like the looks of the Talon 11. I have a camel back that doesn't have a hip belt. Ok on flat ground but if start scrambling on steeper stuff a good hip belt is good to have. Get a platypus hydration bladder and put in it and you will have a winner.

Thats the one im leaning towards. Those hip belts will come in handy especially on a mountain bike. I was curious if 700ci would be a good all around size too

Not sure exactly how big my camelbak is. Around 800-900 ci. Plenty big enough for packing a lunch, poncho, snacks, and whatever. I've even packed it with a small sleeping bag and tarp for an overnighter, and had enough room for a few meals.

Ended up going with the Talon 11. I can always return it if it sucks I guess. Thanks for the input

You made the right choice. I only buy Osprey now. I'm a follower of the cult.

I was hoping you'd jump in here before i pulled the trigger after reading some of your posts in the hiking thread. It actually came down to the Talon and a Gregory Wasatch(same size as the Osprey)

What are your thoughts on Gregory packs? Any experience with them?

just picked up the REI Flash 18, but havent had a chance to use it yet. Couldn't hardly pass it up for an 11 ounce daypack. LINK

Sturdy, well made, but often heavy. I always go Osprey now because of their amazing customer service and policies but Gregory makes great packs too.

From what i've been told they used to be good but are just falling behind the curve. No experience myself but from comparing I've noticed they are heavier. Can't go wrong with Osprey OP. For a daypack i have an REI 25 liter trail pack. Got it on an awesome sale.
