Pretty sure he will be at the upcoming camp. If he impresses, he'll get a offer most likely.

I would rather Melvin Jones than Darian Claiborne

Why? Claiborne is quicker, faster, and more explosive than Melvin Jones. Plus he fits better in our system. The only advantage Jones has is size.

I prefer Claiborne over jones also. He's a typical Chavis LB, I think he'll get it at camp.

I disagree. Jones is a more versatile player imo. It would be nice to offer both.

Yea, I am a big Jones fan. The kid plays QB also so you know he is athletic. Unfortunately I think he is going to be one of those guys we look back on wishing we would have offered.

Melvin Jones is going to be Bama's next Don'ta Hightower.

Is it a given that Jones will not get an offer?

I dont think we take too many LB's this year.. we took Louis, Alexander, Fiest, Granier, Jones and Phillips last class. So we may only take 1 LB

u take claiborne regardless, he is the perfect player for our defense. listed as MLB but is a hybrid that could play LB or in the secondary, very athletic and has the size to be punishing SS and is coached by josh reed and chris cummings. he'll be in P&G when all said and done

We should offer both without question.

Now that I got that out of the way, I like Jones better as a prospect but Claiborne better as a LB if you can follow what I'm saying. Jones is more talented and versatile so that gives him an edge to me as an overall prospect. Claiborne is just better as a pure LB at this point and a better fit at LB for our defense. I personally think both are better prospects than half the guys we took at LB last year but sometimes the difference is needs in a particular year and it just so happened that last year was the LB year and it's costing us this year. The DL, secondary and wr/te are our big needs this year and reasonably could take as many as 18-19 of our spots this year. 5-6 DBs,6-7 DL and 5-6 WR/TEs. That doesn't leave musch room for LBs when we still have needs on the OL and QB. Another reason I prefer Jones over Claiborne. His versatility is more valuable.

Have heard the Jones grade issues stuff and hope that's the holdup in regards to LSU. Not buying the Bama thing. Not the part about them telling him they'll work through it but them actaully following through with it. They already have one kid committed that is a longshot to qualify and with plans to take yet another full class, they can't afford to sign multiple kids that aren't going to qualify. That is an area where the new 25 limits do factor in. If he's not going to qualify then it doesn't matter whether he signs with Bama or not, he can still go through the recruiting process again next year as though he never did and LSU would trump Bama if we got involved.
