You laugh but I juat ordered a waterproof motorcycle radio and speakers to put in my yak. I'll post a thread when it comes in

Yes, i have that model. Works very well. Speakers are waterproof and amplified. Sounds very good for the size and portability. You can fully control the iPod through the membrane on the case. You can buy direct from manufacturer for about $35. Well worh it.

It comes with a lanyard that has built in flotation. It would not float without it. It can be way louder than it needs to be. I get asked about it at every kayak race by people trying to find out where to get one.

Actually a couple of 4" marine speakers and small amp with some ingenuity in the housing would probably work well. Wire iPhone directly into amp. Small 12v battery. No head unit. Boom.
