and they sucked for the last 4 years. Ethan probably wants to play for a team that won't suck.

Big kid. Really good offer sheet. I wonder if we have any shot. Miles seems to steal a good one from up north every three or four years. (Barksdale & Ware)

Might cause Hawthorne to retire. I'm thinking he would really mangle that one, kind of like the national guys do with the coonass names.

Came out Friday I believe that he plans to visit us at some point. OSU is considered a big favorite at this point but their little scandal could be the opening needed. Worth a shot.

While talking about new offers that have come down lately, maybe a little discussion can be had. Thoughts anyone?
Offers the last couple weeks or so.

OL David Dawson (Michigan commit that is somewhat open but primarily to UF) got offered today

DT Scott Pagano from HI. Good looking player that is kind of infatuated by Texas/Southern style of football. Said we will get an official visit. Oregon is the early favorite

DE Lewis Neal from NC. Was committed to OSU but they offered at LB and we're telling him rush end. Small at just 6'1 230 but is pretty long and very explosive. Similar in size to Beckwith and probably a better athlete. I originally assumed he was a FB offer because of size but he says rush end. Talented kid that is really liking us right now and could be a commit after he visits if we accept(sad that we have to add that in at this point)

DE Sean Spencer from GA(I believe that's the correct name) Our Rivals site had an article talking about the position he was offered at so I'd assume it's not DE. My guess is TE or FB. Maybe someone else can disclose that since I don't follow Rivals much.

Juco TE from CA who's name I can't seem to remember. Seems high on us and has an impressive offer list.

I'm sure there are more but I'm blanking. Feel free to discuss any of these and add others that I forgot.

Since you brought it up, you think the sex offender causes the Barrett family to think about that long commitment?

That situation looked worse than it may have been but all is fair in recruiting.

fanva, Shea Dixon has an article up today about the Lewis Neal offer. Here is some video from 2010. Here is 2011

I must have missed this thread after I posted the 1st time.

GA, I don't think it has a huge effect but it did hurt with Anazalone and I'm sure others at least thought or are thinking about it.

I love the spin OSU people are putting on it though. All I've heard them say is that the guy wasn't officially a part of the university or football program and in no way was affiliated with OSU. Seems kind of strange that he knows most of the cuurent football players and had enough access to recruits that he was taking photos with them on the sidelines of the spring game. Tells me that the OSU athletic department and specifically the football coaches, knew exactly who he was and knew he was around these kids. Not to say they knew his history but it's pretty obvious that they knew the man and allowed him access to the football team and recruits. It just doesn't look good for the OSU program and should make parents think hard about letting their kid be there or at any school to be honest. Who knows what kind of people are around these kids if a pedo was allowed to sneak in under the radar.

Thanks Chinese. I had seen some film on Neal and knew Shea had an article out. I miss TSD some but I'm not paying for anything until the 247 thing gets running and I find out for sure who is going to be on what site. Scout doesn't appeal enough to me if Shea and Sonny aren't going to be there. Since I haven't seen anything definitive on the rumors of them going to 247, I'll wait until the 247 site gets officially going before making my choice of where to go.

I decided to stick with them until something happens with 247.

Some OSU guys tell me they let all of the fans on the field after the spring game for autographs. They said that's where the "on the field" picture came from. They said the other pictures were out at a restaurant or a club where the A Dept. had no control of who was mixing with the kids. My reply to that was what fan knows who recruits are and what players pose with strangers for pictures? They acted like that was normal behavior in Columbus which explains why they are in the situation they are in now.

When the Tressell stuff went down they all said he didn't know about the players selling memorabilia and autographs. Hell, everyone in Columbus knew about it. Their fans knew players were signing stuff for money because they were the ones buying it. Who else would want it.

I understand the OSU fans' perspective and them trying to excuse it because i'm sure our fanbase would do the same. I give them a pass for that reason but the staff and administrators at OSU have to be held responsible. These are people's kids that are on these visits and what parent wants their kid somewhere if they feel it's not a safe environment or that the staff knows where their kids are and who is around them. I know they can't keep full track of the players already on campus and in the school but they should do all they can to monitor who's around recruits. They are still going home to their parents and reporting what went on. Thin line to walk with recruits.
