Everyone of those guys are more athletic than what he had sitting on the bench last year. Our lack of talent was sickening. It seems we are getting more athletic with these new signings so I'm excited to see what happens.

This. We went 7-9 in the SEC and with the current class we are staying the same or upgrading at nearly every position and the depth is getting a large upgrade.. If we sign Odoh we are going to make some serious noise in the SEC.

Let's jump on his nut sac....

---and he hasn't even coached a game yet here.

His Sunbelt record --- 91-88

Gee, I can't wait...but I'm just happy it's someone new in there.

We have signed 4 players, one was a top euro prospect, one was the number 8 JUCO player, the other was the number 12 player from JUCO, and the fourth is Malik Morgan, who we have a reason to be excited about.

That doesn't sound like rumors to me.

However, the only player, of the four, to date that jones has maybe secured that trent may not have, is the power forward.

so your title is mis leading and giving all the credit to jones is a little biased.

i'm not against jones, i hope we win big with him. he appears to be making some good moves in hiring and recruiting. your post is disingenuous in that it gives him all the credit for the players like coleman, hammik, and morgan who trent was in on and signed.

I thought Coach Jones was the cheap political hire.

I watched his press conference plus what he's doing recruiting wise and I'm excited.

Truly excited for the future of LSU basketball.

So why when TJ was coach did Coleman take lots of visits and talk up other schools yet within a couple weeks of Jones getting hired he signs on the line? Why did Geert come out and say that because of Jones hire he would push Shane to LSU even more? Then what do you know he signs within a couple weeks. These guys had all year to commit with Trent here but somehow its just coincidence that we get a guy with some personality and they start rolling in. Also that PF was a position of tremendous need because Trent had no depth and nobody on the radar.

Did I mention we are in the conversation with a 5* McDonalds All-American from Mississippi too?
one would think Pollard is out of the mix now with the most recent commit being a 4 as well, but anything can happen

Headline is a bit exaggerated. Trent gave Johnny a relatively solid foundation to work with.

didn't the basketball signing period start in mid April? aka when Johnny was hired? or can they sign all year?

LSU has signed the number 8 and number 12 JUCO prospects in the country. The most recent is a 6-8 Post player

also heavy, thick smoke coming from UNT that Odoh, a true 5, is leaning mightily towards signing with LSU

This provides immediate help and more athleticism on the roster than we had in a few years. Losing Hamilton is still going to hurt, but with these additions, we'll actually have a shot to make some noise last year.

As Adam Banks said earlier, the two guys in Hammink and Coleman had all year to commit or make their intentions known, but they didn't. In the course of a week JJ had them locked up. And then we add a guy that is can be a legit post-player and actually did some nice things on the court at Iowa St. Our last Iowa St. transfer worked out well, and I'm really happy to have Godfrey coming in.

All in all, this has gone about as well as I could hope in a short amount of time. And more importantly, we have some legit recruiters on this staff that will make it easier to keep kids instate and for us to go out and attract some of the top talent in the southeast and Texas. The basketball program is looking up right now, plain and simple.

Basketball has an early signing period and a late period. Yes the late period was right near Jones' hiring but those guys had every opportunity to give a verbal to Trent/LSU and the only guy that Trent could get was Malik Morgan. Yet right after Jones gets hired he is pulling guys. Did Hammnik and Coleman have LSU/Louisiana ties? Yes. Were they sold on LSU under Trents leadership by every indication no. Those guys had significant interest from major schools and were still shopping around until Jones got hired.

You guys are missing the big picture. Hamilton just left. Trent and Jones have that variable in common.

Trent was fricked. JOB was the only big. JOB And hickey were about to transfer. The wheels were about to fall off this bad boy.

Even if this Odoh comes, he would have to sit out a year, right?

are any of the players that Jones has signed to date potential first round NBA selections, or are they simply solid college prospects?

no first rounders.

The three signed players are
Hammink. 6 5" foreign. dad is LSU alum who played.
one hopes he's a 4 star with poise and leadership ability. He was raised by a guy who did it for a living, as the bench guy for three years in the NBA and then for a few years in Europe. Years of practice under a coach who knows the rope's one of the keys to the sport, besides DNA for height, jumping and running.

a four star shooting guard who is 6 3".
a 3 star small forward, 6 6".

I read that LSU is also getting two JUCO's, the 8th and 12th best in the USA, and one of them is 6 8".

If you had this class every year you could compete.
They are a little small of course. But the talent is on the cusp of good enough, especially if Hammink is the real deal.

Next year, our new coach will have to find a center or a serious power forward.
Maybe our 6 8" JUCO can rebound.

Trent left this place in worse shape than he found it.

Johnny has already filled more spots in this class with pretty quality players (time considered) in just a few weeks than that assclown TJ could in an entire year.

Coach Jones is really getting me excited about some basketball. Just the fact that we are even HEARING about basketball recruiting in May is awesome.

More offseason recruiting/next year/future threads about basketball in the last two weeks than in the previous two years alone.
