Depends on the payout, but it will be a nice little profit.

Since you bet on them to win, place and show you get paid for each place. With a $5 bet I am not sure how much it will pay it depends what the place and show spots are paying out as well.

I bet $5 at 15-1. So I won $75.

I guess I'm real confused on the payouts work, but if I bet the board at $5 on a horse that came in place (3rd) at 10-1 odds, then I win $50 right?

10/1 is for the horse to win. The payouts are reduced if you bet him to show. It's paramutal wagering so it's a pool of money. It's not like sports betting where you get the odds at which you placed the bet. So with horses we're all splitting a pool.

Dullihan is getting $7.20 so with a $5 bet I think it might be around $20..

Was your ticket $5 total? If so, divide your bet by 3 to figure out how much went each way.

If you bet $5 to win, $5 to place and $5 to show for a total of $15. You'll pretty much break even. With a $5 show ticket cashing in at around $15 or $16.

Ok, you take whatever your horse paid and multiply by 2.5. So 45.20 x 2.5 so $113

If the payouts quoted quoted above for win/place/show are correct, about $138.

That can't be right. So if I bet $5 on win, $5 on show, and $5 on place on a horse with 10-1 odds, and he came in third, there is no way I win $113...

Yeah, he is getting $7.20. I would think its that X2.5 so $18.

No, you ran third. He paid $7.60 to show. So you get that 2.5 times. Please refrain from telling me how gambling on horses operates as I have been doing it my entire life. I grew up in the business.

Supadave....you lose on the WIN and PLACE bets. The SHOW bet wins. So multiply $7.20 by 2.5 and that's how much your ticket is worth...so $18. You've made $3. Dont' spend it all in one place.

Please refrain from doing a shitty job explaining. You made it sound like he won over a hundred bucks.
