Mansurs on the Boulevard cake slicing fee.

Last week my wife, my friend, his girlfriend, his dad and I went to Mansurs for my friend’s birthday. So we go in with a small round cake and ask the hostess if should could put it in the back for us. She said she could but there would be a $2.50 per person cake slicing fee. So we left the cake in the car. Now we still ate there because that’s where he wanted to go there for his Birthday. If it would have been up to me I would have pulled a Lebron James. Still the fee left a bad taste in my mouth and I vowed not to go back unless they change it. The food was ok BTW. Has anyone else ever run in to this at other places? I know places like Chili’s, Applebee’s, Olive Garden wouldn’t do this. I know some reception places charge this and I am fine with that. I understand why Mansurs charges this but why are you going to lose a minimum of $40-$50 per person over a $2.50 fee. It makes no sense. It’s not like we went to the restaurant just to order drinks and eat cake. Thoughts?

Do you not understand that a cake cutting fee, similar to a corkage fee, is set up to recoup some of the money they lose by you not order dessert or buying their wine.

Cake cutting fees are standard for place like this. I do feel $2.50 is a little high, $2 should be max. Chili's and Applebees are huge companies. Privately owned restaurants have very slim margins, and you bring a cake completely cuts any chance of a dessert sale. However, you will still need services like, having the cake cut, plate-ware, having the dishes washed ect.....therefore they add a small fee.

You're comparing Mansurs to some shitty chain restaurants. Does Chilis charge a wine corking fee also?

Seems normal to me. For $7.50 a slice they'd bake one for you.

I don't think you get it. I get it. I think ordering drinks and since everything come a la carte that more than make up the money it would cost them to clean a few more plates.

I don't know if Chillis charges or not. I never bring my own wine.

you actually went INTO a restaurant with your OWN cake? and then complain that they want to charge a fee to slice it? How cheap are you?

I don't have a problem with it. I'd have paid it and enjoyed the meal and the cake. I don't see the big deal.

You obviously have no idea of the cost that go into a restaurant. The best ran restaurants in the country probably only make a %6 profit. That $5 mac and cheese has to cover more than just the cost of the raw ingredients. Think of all the thing the price of food has to cover. Linens, plate, silverware, flowers, office supplies, bathroom supplies, menu covers, kitchen equipment, bar equipment. I could go on forever with this list on what the food cost indirectly cover, and don't forget the big cost.....LABOR. Like a poster said earlier stop being a cheap arse. If you don't like supporting the few nice local restaurants this city has, then go to Apple bees.

I am not cheap. The point you fail to see is everything in these fine dining restaurants is a la carte and you pay for ambiance etc. I am spending $50 per person before tip I think the least you can do is slice my cake for me.

How do they know that's what you're not going to do?
If you have the money to spend at mansur's, then you have an extra 2.50 per person for the fee. It's not that absurd.

We made reservations.

The point is when your spending that much money the least they can do is cut my cake. They don't even have to do that. We can cut it ourselves.
