REALLY interesting read if you're a long-time NBA fan.

LINK

As soon as I read the title, I knew the '02 Lakers 'ship would be on there because of the Western CF that year.

quote:

In Simmons' words:

Game 6 of the Kings-Lakers series … quite simply, one of the biggest officiating travesties in any sport. You know it was bad when, years later, some Kings fan turned every shaky call into a 7:34 minute video accompanied by a Coldplay song. Six years later, that travesty gained a second life when Tim Donaghy (a convicted felon and someone who disgraced the sport more than this game ever did, but still) claimed Game 6 was rigged … but trust me, it was just as sketchy when it happened. Check out Roland Beech's breakdown for all the gory details, or you can even check out my 2002 reaction when I wrote, "from an officiating standpoint, the most one-sided game of the past decade … at least six dubious calls against the Kings in the fourth quarter alone … L.A. averaged 22 free throws a game during the first five games of the series, then attempted 27 freebies in the fourth quarter alone of Game 6 … rumors that David Stern wanted to pull a Vince McMahon and declare himself 'The special guest referee' for this game prove unfounded."9

Its a shame that Kings team never won anything, they were VERY good.

I especially like when Mike Bibby Fouled Kobe's elbow with his face

yeah, I hear that a lot. meh, somebody had to win em' I'm sure Malone and Ewing don't think they were "in the bag"

simmons:

quote:

Hold on, unpopular opinion coming … I don't love that '95 Rockets-Bulls matchup for Chicago. Their leading rebounder that year? Scottie Pippen at 5.9. (Remember, the Bulls didn't add Dennis Rodman until that summer.) Their centers that year? Luc Longley and Will Perdue. In The Playoff Series That Never Happened, everyone remembers Jordan looking rusty against the Magic; nobody remembers Shaq and Horace Grant combining for 47 points and 33 rebounds in Game 5, MJ being less rusty than you think (he averaged 31 a game in that series), or Shaq finishing with 146 points, 79 rebounds and a whopping 81 free throw attempts in six games. Were the '95 Magic too big for the '95 Bulls? Sure seems like it.

One more thing: The '95 Rockets were better than the '94 Rockets.

He played in 95, including in the playoffs. They lost to Orlando who then got swept by the Rockets

he hadn't played a game in more than a yr. that's still an * title.

I'll duck after I write this, but I really like Miami. It's a shame that we don't have a healthy Rose so that there wouldn't be any footnotes for this season.

Like the article said, if the Heat blow through the playoffs then it won't matter. If it takes them 6 or 7 to get rid of the Bulls then it'll be a top 10 footnote title.

He had still been playing sports and was in great shape. The Rockets were also head and shoulders better than the Magic, who beat the Bulls. If Houston-Orlando had been a 6 game series or more I would agree, but it was a sweep. Not to mention MJ's individual numbers in the 95 playoffs were comparable with several of his other championship years, it was the team around him that failed.

The Bulls didn't have Rodman yet, and in a theoretical Bulls-Rockets series Houston would have absolutely dominated the paint as Simmons points out. Rodman was an enormous part of those Bulls-Jazz series wins.

It's Lebron though. He will be criticized for everything regardless. If they do win it this year, the first articles you will see will be about how he had to team with other all stars to win, and then how the best team this year was without their best player and reigning MVP. I don't think it will matter if they beat Chicago by 30 every game.

best part of that article was the link at the end showing why Olajuwon deserved to win a title----> that dunk he had on the whole Jazz team and that spin move baseline dunk on Ewing in the finals were my favorite dunks I remember about Dream.

I hate the Heat and Lebron, but I do agree with this. Not saying that I won't relish the opportunity to criticize him though

I think a lot of people underrate Hakeem.

Maybe underrate isn't the right word, but don't consider him dominant because he was pretty skinny for a big man.

But he was downright unstoppable in his prime. Maybe the most complete center in history. Passing, scoring, rebounding, blocks, steals, assists. He did everything.
