Cantillon gueuze at calandros

I stopped by Calandros on wednesday and I saw they had one 375ml bottle of Cantillon classic gueuze with the euro label on the shelf. It is one of my favorite beers so I grabbed it and put it in my cart. I was excited to get it because I have never seen Cantillon outside of New Orleans.
Then I saw the price. It was $18.99. I thought maybe that was the price for the 750ml bottle, but on the tag it said "Cantillon 12.7oz" I know it is an expensive beer, but that is more than double what it should have cost. It should have been $8 - $10. Does anyone know why on earth they would charge that much?

Cause they know tetu and s14suspense will buy it anyway?

at that price it might be cheaper to order some from belgium and have it shipped here.

I think one of two things must have happened.
-they drove to new orleans and bought some off the shelf at regular retail price and marked it up again to make a profit.
or
-they actually got a case and are over charging because they know they can get away with it because it is a sought after beer.
if they are just over charging for "rare" beer that a bad sign of things to come.

Where have you found any cantillon 750 for $18?
Avenue has the 375 classic gueuze listed as $21. I know they're a bar but their prices on cantillon are only a few bucks more than stein's. Also, this is the organic version (unless they got another cantillon since ive last been) which may cost a bit more than the classic gueuze.
Seriously call me out if im wrong and let me know where you fouund $20 big bottles. Last time i remember stein's had the 750 classic gueuze for $28 and the rest of the lineup was $30+

Used to be able to get it here in Shrevepatch. Haven't been able to find it for several years now. One of my alltime favorites. I'd probably cough up the dough for it even at that price if it became available again. Enjoy the funky sour goodness!

i know cork and bottle in new orleans had them for around $18 last year. maybe $20. the capped and corked 375ml are always priced at most $10. it would make no sense for them to price capped and corked 750ml for $8 more than 2 375ml bottles.
as to the organic label it is the exact same beer as classic gueuze. it does not meet the requirements to to labeled organic in the united states and the organic label is simply the european label. last time i was at the avenue pub they said they didn't know why they got those bottles, but it was a mistake. if you look at the back of the bottle it does not have any "bottle refund" information that is required in the US.
i was just concerned with Calandro's business practices in this situation. if you are fine with bar pricing of beer at stores i have a six pack of abita amber i can sell you for $24.

You did remind me that the classic gueuze was around $20 for a 750 last year. The $28 that i got was for a St Lamvinous 750 i picked up.

1. Yes, it is very hard to get.
2. We ordered it from the distributor, we will never purchase something from a retailer/bar and re-sell it, As that is highly illegal.
3. Tetu & S14suspense etc are very good customers of ours - so we do in fact order certain products with them in mind.
4. Contrary to what you may think, It costs that much from the wholesale distributor. Stop flaming please... We don't make much money at all on beer (including the super rare ones), it's a passion of ours and most of our customers. Enjoy the selection of over 250 beer-related products, because we will continue delivering to BR all that we can get our hands on.
Cheers!
"have a GREAT day!"

I was not "flaming". I asked a question and wanted to see if anyone could answer it. I have been shopping with you all for years. Thanks for the GREAT response.
