Michigan rising quickly
Michigan State staying where they are
Ohio State
Wisconsin
Nebraska
Penn State may have made a home-run hire, its showing on the recruiting trail

They've easily got the 2nd best collection of coaches right now

Name a team worth a shite after OU, OSU, and Texas in the Big 12. I think its already happened depth wise. Still think the Big 12 has more than enough at the top to beat the best of the Big 10 though.

TCU. Remember, that team took out the Big 10 Champ 2 years ago. It's harder to gauge, because the Big 10 is defense oriented, so the league tends to look better because of the lower scores. Kansas State and Iowa State were pretty salty last year. And West Virginia looks like they'll fit right in the Big 12. Right now, I'd say they are even with the Big 12 having the slightly better top. But, OU and Texas are powers and Michigan and tOSU being pretty much equal. The main difference is OkSU, and with TCU and WVU, I think the Big 12 will be better in the future, if they stay together.

WVU will decent and might contend. TCU will be like Baylor and be lucky to win 6-8 games a year

Doubtful. They have money, are in fertile recruiting ground, and an elite HC. They took out Wisconsin in 2010 and people were touting Wisconsin for a chance in the NC.

With the recruiting classes Hoke and Meyer are putting together, the next few years of The Game should pretty fun to watch.

No our nations shifting population base will continue to hurt rust belt recruiting combined with the emphasis on academics and refusal to over sign, the big ten will still struggle on the national stage on a championship level.

That being said 4 of the 5 blue chippers that bounced after verbaling to PSU landed at Ohio State. It looks as if the hire in Happy Valley will negate the consolidated high school effect anticapated with the PA/NJ/MD kids going to OSU thanks to Uncle Jer

No offense but do you follow what's going on in the world or just spout what others say?

1) Florida's population may be near its peak and several analysts are predicting a population decline for Florida in the next decade or so.

2) There is a manufacturing rebirth in the US and that rebirth is squarely in those rust belt states you are bashing. The population base shift you are touting may be at an end.

The population in New York,Ohio,Illinios Pennsylvania, Michigan etc. is dropping has been dropping for two decades (google electoral vote shifts) while increasing in median age.

I am sorry I offended you with this fact.

Where is the link proving manufacturing is moving out of the sun belt to the unionized north

Before Penn State's bowl game, the announcer's kept talking about the tough D played in the Big 10 and about how PSU was a top ten pass defense in the country - then Houston put up well over 500 yards passing against them and embarrassed them with a bunch of WRs that were passed over by every Big 12 team.

recruiting is the name of the game.

B10= Pennsylvania, and Ohio. Not much else.

So.... NO. Tex > Penn + Ohio

Meyer will recruit nationally (at least New Jersey and Florida), but that wont help Wisconsin and Nebraska.

PA esp western PA is not turning out the kids it used to, most the time they are over rated and don't pan out like just 10 years ago

You say:

There's some new economic action in the rust belt due to Marcellus and Utica shale production, but this "manufacturing rebirth" you're referring to is not only wildly overstated, its not happening in the rust belt.

Did not know Florida was the only state not in the rust belt. Interesting. Also, haven't since a lot about this theory.

What about population out West?

Can't speak for all manufacturing, but car manufacturers are moving south.

Kia just opened a $1 Billion dollar manufacturing plant in Georgia.
Toyota just opened a $40M plant in Mississippi.
Volkswagen has built or is still building a new plant in Tennessee.
South Carolina has a $2.2 Billion BMW plant.

you are seriously using penn state, with all that they went through, and blaming them for their bowl game?

the top of the big ten needs to prove themselves better than the top of the big 12 though because i don't see that as the case

Premise is faulty...

Pac 12 - Mike Leach, Rich Rod, Jim Mora, Kiffin, Kelly, Sark, Whittingham...conference is about to explode.

Not to mention the Big 12's best team last year barely beat the 3rd best Pac 12 team in the Fiesta...crappy UCLA owns Texas...and Oklahoma has historic problems beating Oregon and USC.

Never understood the Big 12 pedestal. B1G will be #2, Big 12 #3.
