| will criticizing our troops ever be acceptible? (Posted on 4/18/12 at 7:15 pm)
I'm kind of tired of seeing every person who comes back from Iraq / Afghanistan getting his or her arse kissed every day, all over Facebook, etc. 1. We didn't even win either war 2. How many innocent people did our troops kill / photograph / mock 3. A year from now at least 25% of the returning troops will be in some sort of law enforcement where its more acceptable to point out that they harass innocent people... so why this red Herring about it being off limits in this instance? I realize I'm to the left of Bill Maher on this one, but I'm honestly curious.

I wish entrepreneurs would get glorified the way soldiers do.

So you are using the horrific actions of a few soldiers to paint the picture that ALL soldiers kill/torture/mock civilians. Wow, just wow.

The "Sign Out" button is at the top right-hand side. Personally, I want to hug them and cry for joy that they made it home safe and in one piece. But that's just me.

If you are going to cricize the troops, then you have to follow their leaders. The current leader of our troops is Commander-in-Chief Obama.

Yeah maybe I should have phrased it differently. Not criticize, but why does everybody feel the need to gush as if each soldier personally cured cancer and then shot Hitler for good measure. Nobody who served in Iraq or Afghanistan "defended our freedoms". Sorry but they just didn't.

Because people have been brainwashed to love the troops. It's a big reason why the state rarely needs to physically enforce its power. It can get most of the population to do that for it through attempts to shame those who do not go along with the mainstream thought.

Agreed. But that's not a reason to shun them is it? Shouldn't you be glad for them that their living hell is over?

I'm kinda torn. On the one hand, they did horrible, horrible things to innocent people in other countries. On the other hand, many of them were just teenagers when they made the decision to join the military and they had been brainwashed to respect the military from a young age.

How do you know they didn't defend our freedoms? They captured as well as killed many well known terrorist. Maybe one or some of them were plotting something they may have successfully achieved. Maybe they were targeting the Mall of America? Y

Yep. I've talked to many who have returned. NONE went over there to kill innocent people. ALL made the decision you outlined for the reasons you outlined. I find it very sad all the way around.

Really? We removed the Taliban from power and got OBL. We took out Saddam and turned power over to the Iraqi people, who now live under an elected government.

Some of us never thought the terrorists were much of a threat. At least not enough of a threat to go over there and kill thousands and spend hundreds of billions.quote:

Or maybe not.
