Since being married last weekend, my new wife and I spent our honeymoon trip in San Diego. Here's a breakdown of the restaurants, etc. that we visited.

SUNDAY (Easter) -
Lindini's Pizza (Little Italy)- DINNER
A lot of places were closed due to it being Easter and some just because it was Sunday. Lindini's was actually open and looked great so we gave it a shot. The Pizza was thin crust, NY style, with very fresh topping and tasted excellent, especially the ricotta cheese they put on many of their pizzas.

MONDAY -
Urban Plates (Del Mar)- LUNCH
We stumbled across this place while shopping around an area that reminded me of Town Centre in Baton Rouge. The best way to describe this place is if Picadilly and Whole Foods colaborated and opened a place this is what it would look like. Everything was organic, but it was served cafeteria line style. I tried the Herb Roasted Turkey and the wife chose the stuffed chicken breast.....each was very juicy and flavorful. Each came with 2 sides and a toasted bread....mac and cheese was good, everything else nothing special.

Amaya (Del Mar) - DINNER
A little wore out from the days activities we decided to just try the restaurant within the hotel we were staying at. We started with the risotto shrimp app, which was plenty enough for us to share and was done very well. For the entrees I got the special, which was a small filet with brasied spare ribs and the wife ordered a cannelloni stuffed with spared ribs. Mine was cooked well but I think she enjoyed her's more. For dessert we split a slice of gingersnap cheesecake...this was probably the best part of the meal.

TUESDAY -
Hash House A Go Go (Gaslamp) - BREAKFAST
Seeing that this was a must visit on most websites as far as breakfast goes in San Diego, we decided to give a try on the way to the Zoo. Breakfast at this place is awesome, but always remember to have someone accompany you, as the portions were HUGE (easily enough to split) or be prepared to bring plenty of leftovers home. The wife ordered an omelet filled with sun dried tomatoes and goat cheese....she loved the 1/3 of dish she ate. I ordered eggs, hashbrowns, and bacon waffles (waffles were as big as a mattress), I enjoyed the food thoroughly.

Mona Lisa Italian Food (Little Italy) - DINNER
After a long day at the zoo we were craving some good italian food, so we ventured to the Little Italy and found the Mona Lisa Rest. This place screamed italian inside and out and so did the food. We split an articoke app., which was very good with the accompanied bread. For entrees, I had the veal parmesan and the wife ordered the lasagna....my veal was cooked perfectly, but I think the lasagna was some of the best I had ever tasted at a restuarant.

WEDNESDAY -
Blue Water Seafood Mkt (Gaslamp) - LUNCH
I wanted to try some west coast seafood, so I asked few local people I ran into and they recommended this place. We split an order of Mahi Mahi Tacos (2) and a sworfish sandwich with a small order of onion rings. The fish was done well and tasted really fresh. I personally enjoyed the tacos more than the sandwich, and would easily take a shrimp/catfish poboy over their fish sandwiches any day of the week.

Sushi Ota (Clairemont) - DINNER
The wife wanted something light that evening, so we opted for sushi. I just started eating sushi during the past 2 years, so I was interested to see how California sushi differed from the places I've tried in Baton Rouge (mainly: Ichiban's and Koto's). Conclusion, California sushi is done well, but it's a lot more bare bones than what's served here (Basically: fish, wrap, rice, fish). I enjoy the occassional shrimp tempura, crawfish, or oyster type rolls that you see down here.

THURSDAY -
In and Out Burger (La Jolla) - LUNCH
Let me just say I had high hopes for this place as it seems to get hyped up all the time. I ordered a double cheese burger with animal fries and I was really dissappointed. The burger was fresh and tasted ok, but it was nothing to write home about. The fries were actually kinda gross with the animal sauce........just not my thing. As far as fries go, I'd take Rally's fries or Bud's Broiler chili cheese fries over In and Out any day.

Bertrand's at Mister A's (Gaslamp) - DINNER
This place was amazing and was the most romantic restuarant we visited. The rest. is basically on the top floor of one of the downtown buildings and lets over look the San Diego skyline. In addition to the view the food was outstanding. We started with a foie gras app which came with pecans and blackberries......it was excellent. For entrees the Mrs. ordered a filet and I ordered a NY strip. She loved hers and I think mine was one of the best strips I had ever had....both cooked perfectly. We also shared a side of mac and cheese cooked with black truffle oil and this was equally as good as the steaks. The one hiccup in the meal occurred when I tried to order their special dessert for night which was a CHEESECAKE, but ended with with giant CHEESE PLATE.........I guess my accent threw the waiter off a little bit, lol. The cheese plate was still a very way to finish off our meal and they also accompanied it with a small chocolate and and berry plate Congratulating us on our Honeymoon. After the meal was over we just hung around outside over looking the city for 10-15 mins. Great Place, highly recommend it.

FRIDAY -
Brockton Villa (La Jolla) - BREAKFAST
This place is located right near the water in La Jolla. Overall this place was Ok, nothing stellar. They're known for their French Toast (Coast Toast), and it pretty good if you like your French Toast souffle like in the middle.

Addison (Del Mar) - DINNER
Addison was the other restuarant associated with resort we stayed at. It is very upscale (similar to August or Stella's). They offer several options for you to dine (3 course, 4 course, 6 course, and 10 course meals). Looking over the menu for the 3-4 courses, we opted for the 6 course meal as we thought the 10 course would just be way to much food. We chose right. The 6 courses each accompanied by wines was a great meal with plenty enough food for the both of us. We had such things as sweet breads, foie gras, veal (most tender I've ever had), kobe beef, ice tea gelato, and green grape juice to cleanse your palate. Overall it was an excellent meal.

Surpirsed you didn't like Brockton Villa. I admit the food is good, not great, but dining outside on the covered patio/veranda overlooking the cliffs and bay is amazing. It might have been me that steered you in that direction. Sorry for that if you didnt enjoy it.

Hash House A Go Go is awesome. Spot on about the portions. We had that before we went to the zoo and didn't need to eat until dinner.

I thought Brockton Villa was good but not great. It is as much about the view and location as anything.

El Pescador Fish Market is a good place to get lunch in La Jolla. The fish sandwiches are better than the fish tacos IMO. Fish is fresh and the food's cheap but there are only like 4 tables.

Etm512, I'm sorry it came off that way, but we did enjoy Brockton Villa. As you mentioned the food was good not great, but the view was awesome. We actually stayed around the cliff area an hour after we ate just to look around and climb down by the water. We even kayaked by the caves the previous day. La Jolla is one of the prettiest locations of San Diego.

The 1 negative I did find about that area was that there about a 50 ft. section near Brockton Villa where the bird dropping smell was very pungent.

Glad you enjoyed it. We loved our day out there. Spent some time down in the cove area afterwards by the sea lions.
