I thought it was recent, friend of mine says he thought it was dug in the 30's.

I have heard the late 50's early 60's. I do not know if this accurate...

Yea, a whopping $5 million to build a 10 mile x 150' structure!
Sounds like a good investment... now most houses out there are 400k and up.

25 years ago there wasn't a home out here. My wife and I have been here 10 years, on our second home and couldn't be happier...

What you think about changing the name, Willowick?
I recently heard someone new to town comment on how nice of area the the DC is, but wondered why it hadn't been named something nice(r) by now.

I don’t think it will ever happen unless all the neighborhoods unite or an organization is formed to promote such an idea. I would be happy if they could ban tubing on the Canal on the weekends...

I don't know much about tubing, and I don't have a dog in a supposed fight to change the name... I like the area, but its not much of a part of my life.... and probably not soon to be,
but I do sorta agree with my friend that most any name would be an upgrade from the two words that so succinctly and scientifically describe the waterway and its area.
and with the internet, etc, seems like it would be relatively easy to organize a group to push for a name change...
so you would suggest.... uhhh.... something Tubeless?
