Is the genre dead?

last good one I can remember is X3. And even that wasn't as good as the old Wing Commander days.

Am I mistaken? Did I miss some great games?

Last Great one was probably Freespace 2.

That's a long time ago.

Tie fighter is possibly the greatest game of alltime... certainly my favorite. I'd forgotten about it until last year when i rediscovered the old game disc in a pile of CDs.

Tried downloading the dosbox or whatever you call it to reinstall but was unsuccessful. If u or anyone knows a way to get this old game working on a modern computer please let me know. Wish the ol' Tandy 486 would still fire up

I think the Space exploration games have been taken over by the 4X genre. Its been ages since I played a good one.

Do Homeworld 1 and 2 count?

I never played them.

I spent the better part of a Saturday during December trying to get this to work. Still have Xwing too. It simply doesnt like Windows 7. Tried dosbox and several other emulators, no dice.

There are some Lucasarts forums were people have edited code to get it to work, but thats a little beyond what I am willing to do.

Unless there has been an expansion I am unaware of. . .

I would love to see a modern version of Wing Commander. That game had it going on back in the day.

I might just need to see if I can find my Wing Commander Prophecy discs and see if it'll run on this laptop. I used to have a blast playing that game.
